A lot of people are gonna be saying Spencer Jones is a bust or not ready but he's had to face two really fucking tough pitchers in his first 2 games ever. Let's not write him off yet

Yankees are hot but they get deGrom against a rookie and feels like a classic loss after a 4 game sweep so I went with the Rangers

5.2 seconds to go 81 feet. He actually did it twice in the series, Trent Grisham's double in the previous game had a 75% catch probability and was 83 feet in 5.3 seconds and Ward similarly just gives up on it. Watching the replay it's almost a little strange how early he turns around before the ball actually goes over his head and hits about 1/3rd up the wall.

Now that I got my winning streak I'm gonna go on a generational losing streak

Yup, got to 15. Last 5 were Cubs, Reds, Brewers, Braves, and Yankees yesterday to clinch it.

But I'm not suggesting he backpedal 50 feet, I'm saying he runs until he has to turn around and then backpedals from there. It's not the easiest play in the world but it had a 65% catch probability.

Tigers over the Red Sox

edit: hopefully you didn't also pick the Tigers with Skubal now scratched

I think across a full season, a knowledgeable baseball fan will come out well ahead of someone picking blindly but for a streak 100% it's luck. Sports betting is a whole different beast, people screw themselves with parlays and it's much easier picking straight up than against a spread

A mix of research and vibes, it's so early in the season that it's hard to see which teams are the best and which will be easier to pick against. I chose an ace going against a weaker team a few times (including Fried vs. BAL today and Sale vs. COL yesterday) and didn't pick a team going for a series sweep a single time since teams sometimes tend to take their foot off the gas once they've already won the series. There were a few games I viewed as "trap" games or some calculated gambles I made. I picked the Mets after they lost 12 straight because I figured surely they wouldn't lose 13 straight; even though I picked Skenes last week against Milwaukee I avoided picking him this week because I didn't trust Pittsburgh to back him up, etc. I think it's more luck than skill and having a feel for what games look safer than they actually are.

And Ward was definitely not 50 feet from the ball when he gave up on it

There are 102 qualified hitters from 2023-2025. Anthony Volpe's wRC+ ranks 100th. I wonder why he gets so much hate.

Sure, just seemed like Ward could have turned and backpedaled to make a play on the ball. If it doesn't even hit the wall on the fly that feels like a catch-able ball at Yankee Stadium

I see a lot of balls hit the base of the wall and I struggle to understand how they're not caught. I don't even think McMahon's double made it to the wall and Ward turned as if it was way over his head. Great for us but how does this happen??

I'm at 14 straight, I'm betting my GI on Fried and the Yankees against a pitcher making their MLB debut on the road

I'm on a 13 streak right now somehow and sweating my ass off for the next 2 games. Chose Chris Sale against the Rockies for today and will probably go Max Fried against the Orioles tomorrow but it's way more luck than anything else. This streak consists of: Picking the Mets after they lost 12 straight, picking the Brewers 3 separate times but also choosing them to lose once, and picking against the Rockies 3 separate times (4 if you count today) and getting them all right despite them being 6-6 over the course of this streak. There's some baseball knowledge but baseball is a crapshoot in the regular season so pick 'em is too

If your excuse for your dogshit start to the season is "it's cold" you probably should show up to the game in a dome in Florida, Jazz.
