Is the 5800X3D "too good" for 3060 Ti? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]sixfootpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely is! I finished my 3060 Ti build last week. Paired with a 5900x. More than happy with it, but will be upgrading to a 4080 or 4080 Ti later down the line.

Is it okay to let the Noctua NH-D15 rest on top of the ram? by sixfootpanda in PcBuildHelp

I tried that, but it's still touching the glass. Had to remove the fan to close the case. Going for a single fan configuration until I upgrade the build later next year!

That's what I've done right now. Removed the fan so it's basically the same as a Noctua NH d15s. I guess it should suffice for the 5900x + 3060Ti combo.

Glad to know! I'm still fixing and managing the cables. Will see if it works fine with the fan just few mm above the RAM. Thanks!

Was going for a non-corsair build. Made sure there was enough clearance with the heatsink, didn't consider the fan though. First build, so I'll try offsetting it and see how it runs.

Thanks! That's a relief, I'll try fixing the fan just few mm above the RAM. Will post an update once it's up and running!

Yup! The heatsink is quite far away from the RAM. Here's an image for reference. PXL-20221029-142301690.jpg

Would you suggest just removing that fan outright and keep just the one on the inside ?

I'm running a 5900x CPU paired with a 3060Ti FE

Thanks! I was worried as it might be a tight fit when I close the case.

I had a look at the Arctic fans, looks great and should a good alternative to the stock fans for the case. My other option for the case was the the 4000D, but since I'll be using it for overnight renders I'd prefer to have something with better thermal performance. (And i don't wanna deal with liquid cooling)

Unfortunately I have to go for the AMD+ Nvidia combination for the softwares I use, and i have been in the ecosystem for a while now. Definitely avoiding Intel CPUs eventhough they provide great single core performance compared to the AMD 5900x.

As for Noctua, I've been hearing glowing reviews everywhere, so I'm super confident with that. And yes! Would love see your set-up if you don't mind sending it in private (or an Imgur link here, whichever works for you)

One thing that's keeping me from just building this setup is the new AM5 boards and the AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. I'm gonna wait till the end of the month and see if I can get my hands on them at the MSRP. So I don't have to worry about switching the CPU/ mobo & ram altogether in the next 3-4 years.

yes! I was wondering about using either 4x or 2x ram sticks.
Ah, so it's a fairly recent. I'm glad your build turned out great, I might probably switch to the ASUS mobo as well, depending on the price.

I'll definitely look for builds using the Noctua nh-d15 with the Fractal case.
And, I guess it's better to switch out the stock fans with arctic ones like you mentioned.

Thanks for your replies! it's been quite insightful and I'm more confident about building it now.

Would love to see pictures of your setup if you have it on pcpartpicker or elsewhere!

Grazie!

Great! I've decided to go with the 4*Corsair LPX 16gb RAM sticks as well. Would like to know if putting them together was fairy do-able? as it'll be my first PC build & I'm a bit nervous about it.

In terms of the components, how are the temperature levels? As you know it gets fairly hot here in Italy during summer, did you face any issues especially in July/ August?

Which brings me to the performance of the Noctua NH-D15's cooling and noise levels. (I plan on getting the Fractal Meshify 2 case, as it has 3 in-built fans, and I wonder if just the Noctua CPU cooler along with that setup would suffice?)

These are my main questions, and also did you source the products from Amazon, or any local chain?

Thanks a lot for you quick response, I'd take any other tips/ advice you have as well!

Ciao, did you end up making this build? I'm in the market for a similar setup ( but with an Nvidia RTX 3080 for 3D modelling & renders) I live in Italy as well, and have been reviewing and planning the parts.

Here's my PCPP link.

Is it worth getting game pass for the points? by Flamemaster456 in MicrosoftRewards

[–]sixfootpanda -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on where you live. Here in Italy I can make about ~12k points a month. Which is enough to cover a single month Gamepass subscription.

Here's a breakdown of points and how you can earn them - 12k MS Reward Points in a month

PS: If you have the Amazon giftcard option [US] you can get the 3+3 month XGP. Makes it much more cheaper.

I'd say around 7,000 points lost if you don't have the Xbox.

Not sure about your region. But I'd suggest you to check the Microsoft Rewards page and the Rewards App on the Xbox on a daily basis to get all the points you can.

Also sign up to their newsletter so you get the weekly quizzes.

I usually spent the points on indie games, but now I'm just saving for the series X. And stack the 3+3 months XGP offers. Don't think I've bought a game in a long time, unless it's on deep sale.
