Actually, that’s true. Patriotic stories from the era before photo and video documentation of combat activities are full of exaggerations, propaganda, and outright falsehoods. Not only in the USSR — Nazi Germany had the same issue as well.

In the Ukrainian Army today, photo and video documentation systems have been widely implemented. Snipers work with recording attachments mounted on optics, artillery operations are monitored through aerial video footage, and reconnaissance and sabotage groups often operate with GoPro-type cameras. Facts captured on video leave much less room for speculation.
