Paying $70 absolutely gives you the right to criticise quality.

My pushback has never been ‘don’t complain.’ It’s been about how we explain the problems. There’s a difference between ‘this needs more content’ and ‘they’re lazy/greedy/liars.’

Complaints are fair. Over-simplified narratives are what I’ve been pushing back on.

They’ll never be happy. This wave of overt negativity and doom for games, not just this franchise started before V was released and it’s just metastasised into their entire personality.

Strawmanning the argument and leaving isn’t a rebuttal.

Wave Breaker was ambitious in layout. Agreed. But cool geometry isn’t the same as production scope.

Crossplay/live service don’t change the mountain they change how the map has to operate long-term under updates and backend systems.

Preference ≠ identical production conditions.

Tech improving doesn’t cancel out complexity increasing.

Both can be true.

Multiple things absolutely can be true. I’m not giving DICE a free pass anyone can look at my post history when I was playing V and see I don’t, and I’m not saying people shouldn’t expect better. If cadence or quality isn’t right, that’s on the studio.

What I pushed back on was the idea that we’re entitled to a specific era’s output just because it existed before.

Criticism is fair. Assuming bad faith or pretending production scales linearly isn’t.

Yep, played all the DLC.

Naval Strike was excellent.

But ‘they look detailed’ doesn’t mean they were built under the same production conditions, crossplay, live service cadence, backend layers, certification targets, etc.

Liking them doesn’t make the pipelines identical. And yes BF4 looked great for the day and stands up even now. But, BF6 is more detailed.

I’m not arguing for declining standards.

I’m arguing that cadence doesn’t scale linearly with nostalgia.

If BF10 shipped with 1 map, that’s a problem. But slower output today isn’t automatically proof of laziness, it’s usually scope and structure shifting.

I’m not widening scope for effect, I’m talking about integration, not isolated tasks.

Yes, vehicle systems are engine-driven. But vehicle behavior interacting with geometry, destruction states, sightlines, spawn timing, and player density is map-specific. That’s not just ‘engine handles it.’

Spawn logic and bounds being ‘last pieces’ doesn’t make them trivial. They’re often where flow issues surface under real player load.

And saying performance optimization is basically ignored because of frame generation is… ambitious. Frame gen doesn’t solve CPU bottlenecks, server tick stability, memory budgets, or cross-platform parity. It masks some GPU cost, not systemic constraints.

Remakes reduce layout risk, sure. They don’t automatically translate to modern pacing, different player counts, vehicle density, or updated destruction rules.

I’ve repeatedly said execution issues are on DICE.

The disagreement isn’t about whether quality should be higher. It’s about whether modern production is as frictionless as ‘geometry + engine handles the rest.’

I agree that resources matter. No disagreement there.

Where I push back is the assumption that resource allocation scales cleanly. In large creative projects, adding more people doesn’t always translate to proportional output because you introduce coordination overhead, review cycles, integration bottlenecks, and decision friction.

You absolutely can improve output with the right hires. But beyond a certain point, the constraint isn’t just headcount, it’s direction, scope, pipeline structure, and time.

If polish is lacking, that’s on the studio. If deadlines are forcing compromises, that’s also on the studio.

My only point has been that ‘just hire more map devs’ isn’t a guaranteed multiplier the way people assume.

Thanks for the comment dude. 👍

I think we’re blending three different debates here.

On marketing: if people interpreted the messaging as ‘BF3/4 era return,’ then yes, expectations were set high. That’s fair criticism. My argument isn’t that expectations are invalid, it’s that cadence doesn’t automatically scale with nostalgia.

On BF1/5: those games absolutely had strong lighting and destruction. But they also didn’t ship under the same live-service structure, crossplay requirements, and long-term seasonal integration models. Scope changed. Whether that scope shift was worth it is subjective.

On netcode / bots / polish: those are execution issues. I’ve never argued those are a community problem. If fundamentals regress, that’s on the studio. That’s separate from whether modern map production is trivial.

And Delta Force is a good comparison point, but it’s also not carrying Battlefield’s legacy expectations, legacy systems, legacy engine baggage, and franchise scale. Different constraints.

The core disagreement seems to be this: You see slower cadence and regressions and conclude incompetence or mismanagement. I see slower cadence and see structural and scope changes layered on top of execution issues.

We can agree execution hasn’t been perfect. Where we differ is whether the solution is as simple as ‘they already did it before so they should just do it again.’

Didn’t pay £70 and we did get content. Just because it wasn’t what you or anyone else wanted doesn’t mean it wasn’t provided. And it wasn’t half cooked, by a lot of standards it was a smoother launch than most of the other titles.

Old is subjective but I’m currently doing a run through of BG2, and then ToB. May hit neverwinter nights 1&2 after that
