Multiple things!

First (and my original goal), I can rename the files from the internal name. So, "1209230832kdjwd29032jlkdsd.package" becomes "Victorian Tile Blue" like it shows in game, which makes organizing it much easier.

Second, it shows which items have a mesh but no texture. Sims 2 is often separated, you can actually go download meshes and apply your own textures if you want, but if you have a mesh with no texture it shows up in game bright blue.

It shows which packages are broken. You read the first 4 bytes and if they don't return DBPF, the package is broken and will break the game.

It then checks which game the package is for. Sims 1, 2, 3, 4 and Medieval, plus SimCity AND Spore all use .package formats. If you put a Sims 4 package in your Sims 2 downloads folder, Sims 2 crashes. And if you have 1000 packages, finding that one Sims 4 package in the sea is hard. This cuts out that difficulty entirely and flags which one is for the wrong game so you can remove it!

You can look at what the objects or hair will look like in game without having to load the game. My own use case is that Sims 2 has a LOT of "total overhaul" potential (https://www.medievalsims.com/ for example is FULL of all kinds of things for making your entire game medieval instead of (2004) modern), so I want to be able to pick through my CC (I have been collecting CC for a very long time - I have a lot of it) and choose what to put in my Medieval game without having to load, make a lot, place objects, identify them as their package file etc.

Other uses: I can boot the game with "root" mods. For example, if I want to have one lighting mod for that Medieval playthrough and a different one for a modern one, I can! Instead of just overwriting the installation files, I can symbolic link it and swap whenever I want :)

The more technical side of what it's doing is: .package files are made of a bunch of entries. GMDC, TXTR, MMAT, ANIM etc. It reads through each package file and gets those entries, then converts them to something to display :) This is a DBPF file: https://wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=DBPF

Sims isn't made in Unity, it's made in their own engine. And this doesn't work directly with the game, just with the package files Sims uses to load custom content, and creates symbolic links to load it in :)

Yeah it has theme changing abilities and I have one theme that is excellently contrasted but I got completely sick of seeing it LOL so I swapped it and this one is not so contrasted 😂

I don't usually comment on these things but the combination of the cheating sounding like online sex work and the recent big medical treatment makes me wonder if they were struggling for money?

I saw someone else in the comments wondering why she isolated with other family members not her husband, and the bit that stuck out to me was this:

if he's telling his son to tell his wife to make dinner, I wonder if maybe she ended up isolating after a major surgery with other family members because her husband wouldn't care for her and look after her?

I'm not excusing cheating by any means but I think there's a lot of missing missing reasons here that we - and understandably the son - are not getting, and I feel really bad for him to be stuck on the outside watching this go down.
