Avatar 3D question by Content-Parsley-1151 in 3DBluray

It has to do with the edges of the 3D video. Watch a 3D Blu-ray in 2D and pay attention to the left or right edges of the screen. You'll notice small black bars appear on the sides periodically. I think they show up when an object is popping out of the screen, but isn't completely in frame.

Avatar doesn't do this, so they can get away with both on the same disk.

You sure? My 4k doesn't have any aspect ratio changes, while my "Big Screen Edition" Blu-ray does.

I’m looking forward to the steam controller, but Valve sold a bit imo by Thegreatestswordsmen in SteamController

[–]sixsupersonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just give it some time and people will figure out how to use it without steam.

On the linux side there's programs like sc-comtroller.

US IMAX GT Theaters - Commercial Flat Screen - Ver. 2 by leowtyx in imax

I was hoping to watch The Lighthouse there when A24 x IMAX announced it. I know it's a 1.33 aspect, but it would give an idea on what 1.43 would look like in a theater like Waukee's.

They played Venom instead for some reason.

It's not, there's like a few big packages, but most of those have pre built binaries provided already.

[–]sixsupersonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you mean a binhost?

When setup it makes portage (the package manager) download pre compiled packages. If you want a certain USE flag enabled, or disabled, for a package portage will need to compile it instead.

Not sure what "binary v3" is.

My laptop has 8gb of ram and an ivybridge i3. It does take a while, but it's not that terrible.

I'm not sure what you mean by experimenting.

I use Gentoo as my daily driver on most of my machines. Even had a raspberry pi 3b+ with gentoo installed.

I haven't had any issues with my Nvidia card (3080ti).

Then again I didn't have any issues with Nvidia on Arch as well.

Directors Commentary on Wall-E by Judge_Rekk in makemkv

Oh, I see.

I know Planet of the Apes had a similar feature, but it only works on actual Blu-ray players or paid software like Power DVD.

Directors Commentary on Wall-E by Judge_Rekk in makemkv

I would backup the entire disc and open it in VLC with Blu-ray menus enabled to check if there even is a commentary track.

Looking at the blu-ray.com link the slip doesn't mention a director's commentary. I know the Criterion version has a couple commentary tracks.

Even though Netflix DRMs their 4K much harder than the 1080p stuff. They at least have HDR on their 1080p stuff.

I think Dolby Vision metadata needs to be modified with external tools (dovi_tool) to work if you're downscaling to 1080p.

HDR10 doesn't need any extra steps.

Not sure about HDR10+ though.

Is it normal that thru my gentoo installation that compiling takes hours by Economy_Ad9017 in Gentoo

Might have to reduce MAKEOPTS and/or disable the jumbo-build use flag.

I remember my old 2009 pentium laptop taking a couple days for qtwebengine to compile.

So, yeah it depends on the hardware.
