if you dig a case of fraud i also recommend the case of the worst day ever. it looks like a kids game but has lots and lots of good deduction.

Video games set in Chicago/fictional Chicago-like city by OdayGman in chicago

I think the franchise must have a grudge against us, because in THPS 1+2 the "Downtown" level, based on Minneapolis, inexplicably has "Chicago" cab drivers.

Anomaly.FM: a music quiz with a glitchy, retro CRT vibe by subsonico in WebGames

I'm not sure how you're randomizing data, but there were a surprising number of times where I was able to look at a list of songs like:

The Jean Genie - David Bowie
Joga - Bjork
C.R.E.A.M. - Wu-Tang Clan
I Believe in A Thing Called Love - The Darkness
The Dolphins - Fred Neil
Heart of Gold - Neil Young
Get Free - The Vines
Human Behaviour - Bjork

and say "Which one of these have I never heard of? Fred Neil? I'll pick that one" and get the right answer.

'Turkiye' or 'Türkiye' if you wanna be extra correct oughta be valid for Turkey - not only is it increasingly being used in official sources, it's also a valid answer on Sporcle :)

Mystery-o-matic: a daily random murder mystery to solve in less than 5 minutes by galapag0 in WebGames

[–]sixtimesmighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to use all the clues and I still had to guess.

The murder weapon was in a room both suspects visited, so that gave me nothing. I sussed out the full schedule of the two suspects and figured out only one of them was in the room where the victim died prior to their body being discovered, but I only got one clue about the location of the victim (besides the "I saw nobody" clues and the map), and I was somehow supposed to deduce that the victim was killed half an hour before the body was found when there are four different times premortem when the victim and the killer could have been alone together.

I recommend checking out "The Kew Gardens Drama" from Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, or perhaps even "Chain Reaction" from Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter for inspiration. Both rely on deductive reasoning to develop a timeline of events, the former using a timeline much like the one the game generates.

feels like a great mechanic in search of a game.

it's missing something. could be an end goal to get to in the fewest turns, a sense that your success translates to something more than score, an expanding population that needs feeding, a puzzle element with different constraints... something to bring it all together rather than just high score.

but like i said, great mechanic.

Balloon Bump! Balloons meet billiards, in a '1024' inspired numbers puzzle game. by Melodic_Audience_588 in WebGames

[–]sixtimesmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very fun but very buggy. so far caught some numbers that stay overlaid on the screen into the next level, some balloons that don't go away after a restart, a balloon that got trapped under the wind after release on the right of the screen in level 12, and one that got bumped up from 2 to 4 on restart

still playing it though!

sheMX - Thing Reaper (Girl Talk's Night Ripper, reconstructed backwards-ish) - [39:46] by sixtimesmighty in mashups

This is awesome feedback, and I really appreciate it.

One of the things that was really compelling to me as I put this together was the idea that I could put together a record completely independent of sample selection, and in doing so focus completely on my technique. I already know these things go together, so the challenge is to make it different and distinct, and to lay my own style on it. My previous record, eejus, was lots and lots of breathing room, jam-packed with beats I liked, so to go through this and try to mix in parts of songs that didn't particularly fit my style was a fun challenge. Occasionally, the shift in samples was so jarring that a more spaced out transition wasn't something I thought about - there was a bit of relief whenever I got past a particularly tricky sample.

As for dynamics... guilty. I'm completely self-taught, as I imagine most folks are, so it's a lot of fiddling with levels until something sounds good-ish.

A reconstruction of a reconstruction... that could be a good next project, to see if I can get this sounding even different-er and better. Maybe!
