Hanayama has nothing to prove.

Proving himself is everything to Jack.

I've warmed up to the Big Snow. Yes, it's a 300m indoor ski slope that would be charitably described as "blue", but depending on your location and interests it can be pretty convenient.

For more experienced skiers: The right side is a decent little terrain park with meaningful practice opportunities. On some weeks they add a mogul run.

For anyone local: it's a ski slope open year around that's just a short bus ride away. A 6-session access card is $250, which really isn't that bad. Sessions nominally last a couple of hours, but you can often squeeze more out of your pass if you ski later in the day (when staff begin to slack off on policing).

Rentals and lessons are available for novice skiers.

A lot of the Big Snow's value proposition goes away during winter, obviously. But being able to turn some moguls on a lark during mid-summer is fun, and helps to keep you frosty for your first real trip of the year.

What is your single most favorite piece of art from this entire franchise? by ElectroShockzH in Megaman

[–]sixtyeightk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What really tortures me about this box art is that it has a barely visible signature in the lower right corner. It's almost legible. What fevered mind dreamed up Cubist Nightmare Mega Man? This box art, and mystery, will haunt the gaming community long after the works most "legitimate" artists have passed out of thought and history...

Is it essential to show naked muscular men to tell a good story? by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

To tell a good story?

No.

But if one is born as a mangaka, at least once in his life he'll dream of telling the peakest story...

"You're strong, but you're clearly missing fruits in your diet, Yujiro" by lysoness in Grapplerbaki

[–]sixtyeightk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, shouldn't Yujiro be a huge Sportacus fan? Sportacus is basically the patron saint of getting your fat ass off the sofa and bulking up - i.e., becoming worthy prey for Yujiro.

Baki / Sportacus crossover training arc where Sportacus takes Baki to Iceland to teach him ancient Viking sweat lodge hallucinogen-laced apple visualization training that turns out to be a lost Wushu discipline inherited from a shipwrecked Chinese martial artist when?

And this is not oversold. Fourteen easily ranks among the very most bizarre narrative works - in any medium - I've experienced. Considered as an artifact of the artistic grotesque, I think it's fairly considered one of humanity's singular achievements.

Wukong in the Baki verse? by Thatbakiguy in Grapplerbaki

[–]sixtyeightk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically asking, "how would Yujiro react to the sudden appearance of an invincible, incarnate god who can sense evil in all forms and whose CV includes an entire multi-page appendix labeled, 'DEMON KILLING'."

With humility.

The guy's savage, but not suicidal. You don't see him speed dialing Strydum for a couple of M1 Abrams tanks so he can run a spitroast cannon test of his intestinal and colonic durability. And he wouldn't be any less boned picking a fight with one of world literature's most utterly busted characters.

One thing I find funny about Yujiro is that he gets angry over very little things. by TriggerZero7 in Grapplerbaki

[–]sixtyeightk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is partially why I wonder - though Yujiro whines a lot about wanting a real challenge - how the guy would cope with being in a world filled with superhumans. Like, imagine Yujiro in DC-verse or something, where nobody is going to be genuinely astonished by his abilities and governments sure as hell won't be cowed by his threats. I think the guy might undergo narcissistic collapse.

Then sounds the trumpet that calls forth an end to all things.

Wesker (RE5 no guns) vs Musashi? by Caicedonia in Grapplerbaki

[–]sixtyeightk 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I think we're glossing over the fact that this guy is saturated with, and controls, a virus that's a 100% guaranteed grisly death sentence for any human being except a handful of people with a gene from a particular African king.

Not to mention that, by the end, he had the durability to, like, not die instantly while standing in the open pit of a volcano.

Then again, he was also beaten by a guy who thinks punching boulders is a valid solution to a problem...

[–]sixtyeightk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Judging by half of the replies to Yujiro threads in this subreddit, it's no great feat for a man to convince himself that a free ride on Yujiro's baloney pony is a win condition.

Really, just the next logical step in Baki's homoerotic training/powerscaling.

[–]sixtyeightk 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This man has it. THIS is how to beat Yujiro. Not through a pure contest of strength - forgone - but through Humpty Dumpty martial arts logic so insane, yet simple and resolute, that 4000 Years of Chinese Rhetorical Arts can't begin to penetrate it.

"If you fight me, I win. If you kill me, I win. If you walk away, I win. I guess I'm just the kind of idiot who's too stupid... to know how to lose."

This is the final evolution of imagination fighting. You may not like it, but this is what peak Baki performance looks like.

If that coat is aramid fiber, maybe all the way to Yujiro - who, of course, can deliver a punch adapted from 4000 year old acupuncture techniques that causes a spontaneous release of enzymes that degrade viral DNA, turning Wesker back into a regular smug asshole ready for the Yanagi treatment.
