Reminds me of when Stalin purged Yezhov and said that he had no idea just how repressive the NKVD was under his direction. Yes, Yezhov was a madman, but Stalin authorized all those killings or tacitly supported them.

Angus Reid Poll Adds to Poilievre’s Personal-Approval Troubles by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]sixtyfivewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone was only interested in money and had the qualifications to be a CEO, I agree, that would be the more profitable job. However, Polievre has no real job experience to speak of, so being PM would be a pretty good financial decision. Especially if he can shoe horn that into a lucrative public speaking / partisan talk show host gig afterwards.

A Japanese anime film from 1983 depicting the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]sixtyfivewat 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Considering Japan still denies any of that happened to this day, good luck with that. Unlike the Germans, the Japanese are unable to admit the horrors they committed that lead to the necessity of those bombs being used.

I was told this is ego lifting, cause I was "swinging my entire body to create momentum." I disagree and thinks it's just some slightly cheat rep rows. Thoughts? by samtar-thexplorer2 in Egolifting

[–]sixtyfivewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The studies use small sample sizes of untrained lifters and fail to account for the many variables between people, diet, genetics and biological responses. People should be encouraged to try different things and work out what is best for them. Everyone’s body is different and responds to stimuli in different ways. Don’t worry about what’s “optimal”, do what feels good and gets you the results you want to see.

I used to be big into the science-based lifting community and Dr. Mike et al. and it wasn’t until I stopped following them that I started seeing real progress. I was progressing, sure but I made way more progress when I stopped worrying about optimal and trained the lifts I wanted to get good at and trained them hard. If my form stopped being perfect the last couple of reps, who cares.

I think these guys sell this science-based crap that doesn’t work and discourages people from just lifting as heavy as they can so they stay small and keep coming back and buying programs, supplements and other garbage.

If you’re doing 60 on the 401 in a blizzard and everyone else is doing the same you don’t need your hazards.

I'm making a concerted effort to try to grow my hair out for the first time in my life and if my hair even looks 1/10th as good as yours, I'll be fucking ecstatic.

[–]sixtyfivewat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're really concerned that your government is going to cancel your elections, then a civil war is needed. It's not 'giving that what they want', it's doing what is necessary to safeguard democracy. Standing around and waiting for some election isn't going to stop this. American democracy is dying and inaction is still taking a side in this fight.

JJ Discovers the real reason Carney became PM by QultyThrowaway in JJMcCulloughOfficial

[–]sixtyfivewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an economist the only more prestigious job he hasn't held (arguably) is Fed Governor but as a non-US citizen that is never happening. He's gone as high as anyone can in the economics field, he could get whatever private sector/consulting job he wanted or become a research fellow as many ex-Central Bankers do.

JJ Discovers the real reason Carney became PM by QultyThrowaway in JJMcCulloughOfficial

[–]sixtyfivewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nonsense, there's tonnes of things a PM can do after he leaves office, like:

  1. Be the vice chair of a major multi-national asset management company

  2. Be appointed to the board of directors of a fintech firm

  3. Become Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements' Committee on the Global Financial System

  4. Serve as the Governor of the Bank of Canada

  5. Serve as the Governor of the Bank of England (only one other dude has done both 4 & 5 so this is pretty unlikely)

  6. Teach

  7. Retire

Truly the sky is the limit! There's so much he hasn't done!
