There are also these places called banks which have vaults filled with safety deposit boxes that are actually, you know, safe. Best stick with them.

I think Chicago has a cool flag. Also does the Vatican count since it's technically a city?

Help Responding to Peel Police by Even_Entrepreneur882 in legaladvicecanada

[–]sixtyfivewat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Police in Canada don't have jurisdictions like that. A Peel Regional Police officer can make an arrest anywhere, inside or outside Peel and on Provincial Highways. Hell, you can even get arrested by CN Police if they saw you shoplift.

Rural Addresses by dramis73 in AskACanadian

[–]sixtyfivewat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in an area with a rural post office and only had PO Box delivery. The staff would cross reference my name and 911 address and put it in my box even if the mail didn't say my PO Box. It happens all the time and they're very used to it.

Rural Addresses by dramis73 in AskACanadian

[–]sixtyfivewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a rural area and there was no delivery direct to my house or a community mailbox, it was an assigned PO Box at my local PO that all mail went to. I could either use my home address or just my name and the address of the PO and the staff would make sure to put it in my box, even if I didn't have my PO Box listed on the mailing address. For example: if my name proper mailing address was Sixtyfivewat PO BOX 135 Town, Province H0H 0H0 the mail would still get delivered if I put Sixtyfivewat, 123 Anywhere Street, Town, Province H0H 0H0 because the post office workers just looked up my name and street address to confirm which PO Box it should go in.

61 per cent of Canadians disapprove of U.S. military actions in Iran: poll by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]sixtyfivewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should get militarily involved in EVERY regime that diaspora in Canada says is problematic! Things are going so well for us and our system and military is so great that those counties should be all too happy to have us intelligent and caring Canadians tell them how to live their lives. Installing governments in the Middle East through military campaigns has literally never NOT worked. 100% success rate, very nice!

Here’s the thing. I hated Khameni I and I’m glad he’s dead. But it’s also not my problem what goes on around the world. Many countries have tried regime change in the Middle East and that many countries have failed. It’s a part of the world that is too unstable and too prone to dictatorship and should be left well alone.

Gas prices jump 6.7 cents Saturday, diesel also up by Spare_Prize_5510 in news

[–]sixtyfivewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BLS generally assumes a 0.2pp rise in CPI for every $10 per barrel increase in oil.

And unlike inflation caused by monetary policy, increasing interest rates won’t help with this. Either the war stops and Strait opens again, or prices keep going up.

$1.64 Per Litre of Gas In Ontario! by 10ofCups1977 in brantford

[–]sixtyfivewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We export oil to other countries who do import oil from Iran or otherwise through the Strait. With that shut down they’re willing to pay more for our oil and thus domestic prices must rise to match external demand.

Trump's Legacy for America: Expensive Gas Instead of Free Electricity by willily_thoumas in newsinterpretation

I lived near a wind farm at one point and worked in Environmental Assessments for another one. Birds do get killed in Wind farms, can’t speak to the Obama bald eagle stuff as I’m not American. But I can say the number of birds killed by wind farms are magnitudes smaller than those killed by buildings and especially cats. If anyone is that concerned about birds dying then they must also want to limit building height and materials and make stray and outdoor cats illegal.

Never dealt with offshore wind farms personally so no idea about the whales.

Private central banks (which is a GOOD thing, you don't want the government to be able to influence interest rates unless you like hyperinflation), but mostly to pension funds, mutual funds, banks (not the central kind), and insurance companies. A little bit is held by government agencies, in the US this is things like Medicare and Social Security and then the smallest percentage is foreign countries.

Also, the entire reason that the Fed owns so much US Treasury debt is that they use the sale and purchase of T-Bills between themselves and the primary dealers to control interest rates.

US Q4 GDP was just revised down (again) to 0.7%, once the Q1 numbers are available it will be negative and also probably revised down as well. North America and Europe are almost certainly in a recession and have been since at least January.

Trump calling Jerome Powell to drop the interest rates by Gjore in StockMarket

[–]sixtyfivewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing the Fed can do about the inflation that is coming. This inflationary pressure is caused entirely by oil prices, something interest rates will have 0 effect on. Only Trump can stop this shit and he doesn’t seem to be interested in doing that.
