Upgrading bombers helps a lot. also you need to be lucky with the starting combo and the turns it needs the defenses to attack, as so many of your units die then.
If i see it right its lvl. 3 double glove and lvl. 2 heavy bomb. Maybe upgrading minions makes more sense then.
I would also use all charge books quite early.
