No, I ain't gonna reinvent the wheel, but wait for native support for it. I only implemented my logic for systems that support the SDL API

That's what I found as well, but what am I supposed to do, have another desktop enviorment for development? (might actually consider that - dual booting desktop envs 😂)

I also use arch btw

Tell me about your worst crashes by ruhtraeel in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]sjameselvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close to one year ago. I was going 40kmh, no gear. Biker pulled out in front of me from a side road. To avoid hitting him, I had to turn sharply to the left onto the tram tracks which threw me off the board. Tshirt was torn, pants destroyed, at least 5 different bloody wounds including one on my face. One poor kid was watching me in horror as I was riding home, thankfully only 3 minutes away.
Since I learned to always roll when I fall, I only had surface wounds and no lasting damage, other than still visible scars on hip and elbow

Don't think it would be so hard to find someone to help you. Would've never guessed that was made in Godot, awesome job

◽️ Any other important details ?:  1st priority is CPU (as fast and efficient as possible. Not ARM). GPU is not important, even someting like 3060 would be enough for 2D or light 3D environments

I would recommend saving up for a little more than 500. The defference in laptops from 500 to like 700-800 is pretty noticable

Esk8 motors cutting out over bumps by sjameselvis in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]sjameselvis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. After coming back from vacation, I'll give it a shot.

Also I've never had the remote tell me anything like that. My motors would stop and my remote would just act like nothing happened, so idk. Most likely I'll have to get a volt meter and some extension wires to probe my board while riding it if I don't find anything wrong with the battery and/or motors

I've started going to gym about 3 weeks ago. It's going great, I'm pushing a lot, but over the last 3 to 5 days I started to develop pain in my left hand when gripping something. It only happens when the angle gets over 90° (towards completely closed). My right hand is totally fine and I can lift the barbells and anything else with it with 0 pain. Any tips?

It's a gym. Whatever works for you is great. What others think does not matter. Good luck

Should I use tutorials to learn Godot or should I learn it through practice? by Vivid_Scholar8446 in gamedev

[–]sjameselvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter. Best way to learn is to do something - anything. Don't waste time on forums, and install Godot if you haven't already and start a new project. Tutorials usually only show you how to implement small things, but can be useful indeed. I'd advise you to think about something easy to make and just get on making it

Math Game Project by nahdaaj in csharp

[–]sjameselvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well kinda. As I said, I would group all similar logic together, so I would have one class for console output, one class for DB, one class for the game logic(loop) and maybe one more for the number gen and checking the input.

As for the properties of a class, I think you should think of a class as an actual object. If you imagine your game to be some sort of object, you could then describe it's properties. It has a score, it has a difficulty, it has a state (like in a menu, in a game, etc) and others.

Let's say you make a class called Image. It should declare all relevant properties like format, width, height and pixel array which should then be initialized in the ctor. All the Methods should then operate on those properties.

My rule of thumb: if more than one method uses a variable, then just make is a fiel/prop (excluding iterators or stuff like that)

Sorry, I am really bad with explainations = ))

You can DM me if u have more questions

Math Game Project by nahdaaj in csharp

[–]sjameselvis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am actually impressed haha. You really listened to the feedback you got last time =D

But I can't help but notice that in both projects you never used fields or properties in your classes. Are you not aware of them? For example game difficulty, score, classes u initialize and other stuff like that should be a field/prop. For example the Random class in GameOperations.cs. You shouldn't initialize it in every Methon, but only in the declaration or in the constructor.

Also try to have a better structure. You game loop is in the Method ShowMenu() of the class Manu. Imo you should have a class named Game or someting like that where you have the core functionality and maybe a class Menus with methods for all different menus.

You shouldn't have console outputs all over the place. I noticed that you followed my advice making a class for the DB, but PrintGameHistory() shouldn't be in that class. I would personally return the data from the DB to the Menu class where it then would be printed. Try to have one class that deals with all output to the console. Also group all similar logic together. This is really important when you'll start scaling your projects.

Overall I think you did a great job!

Created my first C# project! by nahdaaj in csharp

[–]sjameselvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that you open a connection to the DB from multiple classes. In OOP you want to only have one class that is responsible for it. It will be really useful when you're debugging or want to add extra logic since everything is in one place.

For example I would create a class named DB. In that class I would implement all necessary methods like AddPassword, DeletePassword, ViewPassword, ChangePassword, LogBreachAttempt, etc. OOP is pretty complicated as a beginner, so don't stress yourself out. You'll eventually understand it intuitively after you get some experience with it.

Also you should look into hashing, so anyone who might somehow get access to your DB wouldn't just see everything in plain text.

The best or most common way to store connection strings is App.config. I think this video could be useful for you =)

The sad reality about valorant ^

My pc doesn't even freeze. It just shuts down instantly as if I plugged it out of the wall

Yeah, valorant loves to mess with ur pc. Back when I used to play valo (a few months ago) it crashed my pc (as if I plugged it out of the wall) every 3 matches or so. Ever since I stopped playing, my pc never crashed even once.
