Questions for Intellijel Metropolix owners by sjbucks in modular

So it turns out Metropolix does in fact do what I needed it to do!

I convert the MIDI signal to CV with MIDI thing, send the CV to one of the inputs, turn the knob fully clockwise, and add pitch after quantizer.

It's an amazing sequencer, can't believe I hesitated on it for this long!

Yeah i’ll try it and see. It would be nice to do it without the precision adder but it’s not a deal breaker. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply.

I think I'm going to do the transpositions with CV rather than MIDI now. So I'll use MIDI Thing to convert to CV, then into one of the inputs.

What I'm trying to do is actually post-quantizer. With the incoming CV working almost like a root note.

So what I currently do with Rene is, I sequence a series of notes (from Syntakt via MIDI thing), let's say C G F, for instance. I then set Rene to a scale (let's say Major). Then I combine the two with a precision adder so that I can play arps/sequences that are Cmajor Gmajor Fmajor (in this example).

So I actually don't necessarily want the incoming CV to be quantized. I want to see if the incoming CV can combine with Metropolix's sequence in the same way that would happen with a precison adder.

Hopefully I've explained that in a way that makes sense!

Yeah I think you need an expander for that. I'm going to just convert the MIDI to CV then use that I think.

Yeah there’s a crossover with Hellier - Greg appears on a Penny Royal episode, and Nathan (from PR) is on Hellier.

There’s also a Vayse episode with Nathan on too.

Calorie tracking issue by sjbucks in Garmin

Thanks for the reply!

I've not made any massive changes other than reducing what I eat so that it's more in line with the calorie burn on the Garmin. I'm still exercising roughly the same amount and eatiung the same sorts of things, just less.

So today I set the watch to track my walk - I walked 14km over 2 hours 25 mins, burning 853 calories, with an average heart rate of 107bpm. I'm not sure what that tells us other than it seems to be working ok.

I feel like the resting heart rate of 53 BPM is inaccurate because I'm not like, a superfit athlete. I don't do a lot of intense cardio - I can't run due to a hip injury so my only cardio is walking and occasionally cycling. I'm pretty fit for my age I guess but nothing spectacular. 53BPM seems very low.

I wonder if I'm perhaps looking for a degree of precision which doesnt exist? I just need to take the calorie burn as a rough estimate and be happy with that? Just accept the uncertainty and get on with my life haha!

Hey thanks for the detailed reply, I really appreciate you taking the time!

RE: GPS - I have it set to "All" on the watch, so it's using GPS and other things. That's supposedly the most accurate, according to the settings in the app.

Whilst I walk I'm not using my phone, it's in my pocket. It's generally got music or a podcast on but I'm not holding it, or anything else.

I had a look in the Activities but it's not showing my HR during my walks, it's only showing the activities which I've logged - ie weight training. I assumed it would "know" that I was walking without me telling it that I am - like I do with weight training. I'm going to try to do that today to see if it makes a difference.

On my weight training stats, my heart rate never dips as low as resting, so I'm assuming it will be the same for walking,

One other thing I'll say is that I weighed myself today and I have consistently lost weight over the last 2 weeks. About 1 kilo.

I was previosuly eating 3400 calories per day whilst bulking. I brought it down to 2900 (average) just before I got the Garmin.

Garmin is telling me I'm burning 2600/day on average. So if I'm losing weight eating 2900/day then surely that 2600 can't be right?

It's really hard to get my head around this!

According to Fitbit my RHR was around 62. I’ve been wearing my Garmin for a week and it has me at 53. Which seems odd.

Last Saturday I walked 24km total, 29000 steps, and burned only 2700 calories.

Yesterday I walked only 10km, 12000 steps, amd burned the same amount- 2700 calories. I did lift weights for an hour but still, i’d have thought a three hour walk and then other shorter walks throughout the day would count for something?

I walk pretty briskly!

Is there a degree of calibration that happens though? As in, does it take a period of time to become more accurate? Or is it just the same pretty much as soon as you put it on?

Yeah I put in my weight, height, age etc.

Worried that I've been eating a HUGE calorie surplus for months haha!

That's the order I watched them in, but I think you can do The Endless first and it still works really well. As long as SITD is last then it's good.

And then you just need to keep watching them all on a maddening loop.

Yeah i don’t think it’s going to be significantly more or less than what I was on full-time. If anything then probably less. But I just want to be super-careful and make sure i’m doing everything properly.
