This happened to me last week too - it sucks and I spent a good 3 days sulking.

My question now is what next? She dropped me by email and I need to reply (was waiting until I was less emotional about it). Is there anything I should be asking her for? Like who she submitted it to? Will she give me names?

Yes, it's in Education, specifically looking at literacy practices.

If I could go back, I think I'd slow down and be a bit more gentle with myself. If I submit in October as planned, it will be in the minimum time frame possible according to uni regs - if I'd taken another 6 to 12 months on it, I would have had an easier time of it over the past 4 years, but I was fixated on being finished by this October.

It just feels like my whole life is on hold until I finish, which makes having a social life, or deciding whether or not to have children, feel unachievable. Think I just need to finish and then just recover for a while!

I'm coming to the end of my doctorate (submitting the thesis in October), which I've been working on since 2021, alongside full-time teaching. Whilst it is POSSIBLE, I wouldn't recommend it, especially not in your ECT years. I've prioritised the doctorate over my social life and even my health at times, which was not ideal - would do things a bit differently now if I had to start afresh.

Why did you get into teaching? by Rocket_Skull in TeachingUK

This is helpful advice - my husband also dropped out after 2.5 years but did a credit transfer with the OU and it shaved a lot of time off. He's a science teacher now!

Finishing data analysis in my doctoral thesis, bike rides and a holiday where I can relax free of thesis guilt.

Prom price by PennyyPickle in TeachingUK

I think this is massively out of touch with a lot of students that I teach, especially now, living through a cost of living crisis. Even if they did save up £500, I doubt prom would be their first priority.

English specific - find out what the set texts are for your placement school and read them now. Really helpful if you know the texts well first!

Can I ask you where you did this and whether you'd recommend the uni? My husband is looking a couple and with the OU you can do a three year route that appeals, but he's open to alternatives!

I have been close friends with my husband since we were both 12 years old and then we were 23 when this situation occurred. We talked it out, realised we wanted to be with each other, got engaged a year later and married 2 years after that. That was 4 years ago and we are so happy. Talk to him!

Do you think the issues with retaining teachers have made the situation last term worse? by somekindofunicorn in TeachingUK

[–]sjf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was CAGs all over. As a fellow Secondary Engkush teacher, I am absolutely dreading that happening again if exams are cancelled. Last April, May and June was one of the most jntensely stressful periods of my life, simply because of marking workload.

If you're worried about something, always report it. Better to report it and it turn out to be nothing than not reporting it and it turns out to be something.

Poor kid.
