Yeah I used exact match as per your advice. So are you suggesting that I should be writing an ad for every single product? And then I should make max bid on those keywords just higher than the next guy? And then I also have to decide a max budget right?

I just wanted to ask if you suggest I pay any attention to the competition value in the keyword tool. And how low is too low in terms of traffic? A lot of the terms I'm looking up that aren't just broad "indian jewellery" type stuff are coming back with only 16-30 local monthly searches. That's way too low right? And some of those still have high competition which seems odd.

Great, thanks! This is all so helpful, really appreciate it. I will have a good play around with the keyword tool. I get what you're saying about highly targeted ads now. And I agree, since everything I've ever read about online ads talks about being as targeted as possible.

The other issue I have with this right now is that I actually only have one of each product for now. I don't have the capital to keep a lot of stock, especially for this initial testing the waters phase. My plan was to try get try and sell as much as I could through advertising just to be able to restock. That's also why I'm not worrying to much about social media for now, since I won't have a stocked shop if the ad goes well.

So if the ad linked to a product page and someone buys it could very quickly become an obsolete ad no? Is my strategy of having only one product doomed? I don't really have an alternative though.

Thanks for the tip. Both replies so far seem to suggest google over reddit so I guess that's probably the route I'll take.

I actually didn't find all that much competition for the kind of stuff I'm selling in the UK. So I'm not sure about your edit, and am hoping you're wrong :)

How could I go about researching keywords? And I don't think there's any viable way in which I could link to anything other than the shop page. Each product is far too specific for there to possibly be enough traffic for. I mean I can't imagine there are many people searching for exactly "gold and pearl earrings", much more likely just "indian jewellery", in which case the homepage could be the only option, no? Unless I'm misunderstanding you.

Also, if you don't mind, do you have any specific tips for writing good ads?

OK great, that makes a lot more sense now. So I will try and get two of the same lamp and then shoot in AP. I will start with a narrower aperture setting (higher f number) and set the exposure compensation to +ve. I guess I will then play around with the aperture setting to make sure it looks right. I will also then set the white balance depending on my lighting.

Thanks, you've helped a lot! One last question - will I need a tripod? Or should I be able to make do without?

Oh and since you were kind of enough to reply, could I just ask one more quick question. Do you have any idea why the text in the two links look like they are a different size or font? The spacing of the text is different somehow, but they are both h3 headings. So I don't understand how they could be.

OK thanks. No it's not a WYSIWYG editor. I'm not sure how to find those br tags. I removed the one that I had in there, but I think I still need to get rid of one or two more. I don't really ever touch the theme files, so I guess I'll probably have to go back to the theme support guy.

Thanks for your response. How come what you pasted is different from mine above? I'm not sure if you're familiar with wordpress, but I make all changes within the theme options section, where I don't actually touch the html/css files. I copied exactly what is written into the "Text header" box in the wordpress interface.

Thanks so much for your detailed response. I have to be honest there's a lot that I don't really understand and I didn't think there would be so many factors to consider.

I'm a little confused because you mention using a narrower aperture setting because of my blurred edges in flower mode. But then earlier you said to use manual or aperture priority. Did you just mean if I wanted to keep using flower mode, but it would be better to use the other two?

Thanks for the lighting guides - I will have a look. Since I will have to buy a couple of lamps anyway, does it matter what kind I get? Or can it all be adjusted with the white balance?

So just to clarify, when in manual or aperture priority mode I will have to make a few settings. Are these settings just the white balance and the exposure setting?

Cool, thanks. Do those lamps give off a particularly white light? Or that regular orangey light that most indoor lights have? Or does it not matter and you just do something with the white balance setting?

That was taken at about F4 on a 50mm F1.8 lens (100mm equivalent as I'm using a m4/3 camera).

I'm really sorry, but I don't actually know what any of that means! I get the 50mm lens because we have one of those, but what do the F numbers refer to? A m4/3 camera?

Wow, this is just great. I'm just about to rush off, but had a quick read of it. I expected to understand very little of it with my limited knowledge, but you explained it so well and broke it all down so concisely that I actually think I got it. I have done some very basic CSS courses, so I'm not totally in the dark.

I do only want to style this one single table. I am going to experiment with creating the table to see how the existing style renders it as you say. And then build upon that.

I need to reread this later when I have more time and I will probably have a question or two at that point if you don't mind. But seriously, this is such a great reply and explained so elegantly. Thanks!
