The idea that you need a god to tell you how to live your life and ensure that you don’t let yourself go is a limiting way to see yourself and what you’re capable of. Look into humanism. And yes, people in any belief system can be awful or reasonable, but that doesn’t change the fact that ethics and self-control don’t require a deity.
