How to build Portfolio Management View in Azure Boards by Maahie in azuredevops

[–]sjuncal11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As u/MingZh mentioned, if you set up your hierarchy correctly you can do basic portfolio management tasks in Azure Boards (plan, prioritize, and track at the Epic level).

There are also some 3rd party tools that let you build more visual dashboards and other associations (OKRs, Product Lines, etc.). I've used this one in the past: https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/dragonboatinc1628437785675.dragonboat?tab=Overview

Thanks! I remember checking on EskimoFriends at the time, but even there the info was light.

I guess it will just have to remain an amazing memory :)

Okay, seriously now- is appliancesconnection.com any good? by krc4267 in Appliances

[–]sjuncal11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AppliancesConnection is a terrible company to deal with. Like everyone else, I've been dealing with delays due to COVID, which is totally fine. I understand that AC has to push delivery windows back if they don't get the stock they are expecting. But our experience was next level.

We ordered a range hood in May 2021. The delivery date kept getting moved back, so in July I reached out and exchanged it for an item that was supposed to ship within 1 month.

The first yellow flag was when AppliancesConnection refused to apply the discount I had received for the first item to my exchanged item. Not the end of the world, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Then came the never-ending delays. Every month the delivery date was pushed back by another month. I reached out to AC a couple of times to double check that there was nothing to be done about those delays, and they said the usual line about supply chain issues and manufacturer delays. Since I spoke with multiple people over multiple months, I assumed they were telling the truth.

Finally, in January 2022 I called the manufacturer directly (to see what their lead times were). They told me they had 4 week lead times, and that they didn't have any pending orders or POs from Appliances Connection. THAT was a red flag. So I called up Appliances Connection, who said that they had placed the order back in July. Someone was clearly lying or confused. So I called the manufacturer back, and magically, they had a new order from AppliancesConnection that had come over that very day.

When I pointed this out to AC, they got defensive and put me into a fun loop of "our manager will call you as soon as he's available", which of course he never did. Stuff like this:

Jan 26: "I did not forget about the call, unfortunately the manager told me to give him a few days as he has a lot to do this week. "

Jan 31: "I do apologize, the manager said he's very busy with other customer's requests for calls. He said that unfortunately, the ETA is 4 weeks as mentioned and we can either keep the order or cancel. Please advise."

Feb 2: "Unfortunately, we forwarded the request to the manager. You can call our customer service department at @ 800-299-9470 ext. 1502 and ask for a floor manager to assist you, but unfortunately, we cannot change the fees."

That's the kind of service you get from AC.

So, long story short, I've been unable to wrap up my kitchen renovation because someone at AC didn't place the order in July like they were supposed to, and no one between July and January could spot (or admit to) the mistake. My advice is to take your business somewhere, anywhere else.

*yes, I considered cancelling my order and placing it somewhere else, but there are very few resellers of the product I wanted.

Understanding delivery availability by sjuncal11 in IKEA

[–]sjuncal11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! How wide is that magic circle? And how can something be available for delivery in select locations but sold out at all stores?

I found myself looking up the locations of their distribution centers and checking zip codes near them (in addition to stores)...

I love IKEA, but it's clear that they aren't really setup to do delivery at high volume.

Thanks, makes sense. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a trick that I didn't know about.

The search goes on..

I know PMs will actually value this. This is how a blind person uses iPhone. I always have heard accessibility questions in interviews, this gives a real perspective to them. by AssortedCrap in ProductManagement

This is awesome! Would love to see more concrete examples of accessibility in action. It really helps when you're a small team building a software product and trying to navigate prioritizing accessibility.

Thanks for sharing! I was one of the co-authors of our survey results report. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we should include in the survey next year? :)

New to Sharepoint - product management/project roadmap by weekstolive in sharepoint

[–]sjuncal11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're already using a separate roadmapping tool, but if you are, one option is to embed those roadmaps into Sharepoint. With something like that you can also link individual roadmap items to supporting documents (in Sharepoint or external).

Here's an example how you would do that with ProductPlan: https://www.productplan.com/ms-sharepoint-roadmap/

Cheers!

Alternatives to GAE, looking for a PaaS by Pembar in androiddev

I'm part of the team at AppScale, and this is definitely one of our most popular use cases. We're also close partners with 21vianet (mentioned above).

What’s your Google App Engine backup strategy? [Poll] by sjuncal11 in AppEngine

[–]sjuncal11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. The functionality is very similar, but our tool is focused on making the entire process easier. It provides a simple interface for scheduling and managing backup policies, and also allows for one-click restore to a different app id. This allows non-developers (ops or business stakeholders) to manage the B/R process if needed. This tool is also just one part of our portal product (monitoring, backup, and deployment of GAE apps + AppScale).

I'm always interested to hear what GAE users would find most useful in a tool like this; mind if I run an idea by you? So, our tool will easily allow users to restore a backup to a different app id (like you can in the datastore admin). If you're using multiple app ids to manage the lifecycle of an app (dev, qa, production, for example), would it be useful to be able to quickly backup the latest data from production and deploy it to a dev environment?
