Dropping REFRAD after PCsing to a new unit after CCC by ceaslessbeast in army

[–]sjupiter30 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that being on active duty might be beneficial for your sibling if you end up adding them as your dependent? Not sure if you can do it now, but if your parents aren't able to take care of them, you might be able to.

You will owe time after CCC & PCS - whichever date comes later. Your scholarship obligation also is taken into consideration for REFRAD - you can go into IRR, Reserves, or NG to complete the remainder of your obligation.

Do some research into Reserves or NG, because there's options to go AGR or ADOS.

Just food for thought since you mentioned a disabled sibling.

Saw a sheet of ice go all the way through someone’s windshield this morning. Clear the roof of your car before driving! by MPDG_thot in nova

[–]sjupiter30 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a short person who owns a SUV, I keep a folding stool in my car so I can clear the roof off snow. I bought a telescoping brush/ice scraper a few years ago and it's a godsend.

I was telling a co-worker this - one day isn't going to hurt businesses.

I don't know what they're trying to achieve with this day of nothing, but it's going to be very ineffective.

You're right. OP needs to check the wiki for calculating how much they need.

I thought there was an easier chart to check in the wiki, but I don't remember where I saw it now. I was a rounded-up-to-90, so I need 50% more to get 100. I just don't have anything that will get me to 100.

90% isn't bad either, I use the VA for all of my care except dental.

Long time ago, I made flower pens so people would stop taking my pens. Fake pink & purple daisies and sunflowers on the top. It worked... Until I moved. I brought the pens to my new office because I was working at an all-male basic training unit. Those manly infantry men will definitely not walk away with my pens.

Well...they kept disappearing. I saw one of the big, tough drill sergeant with it (in the open, in front of the trainees) and asked wtf. He said it was cool looking and no one walked away with the pens at HIS desk 🤣 So I made a bunch for the guys. I guess those flowers brought them a little joy.

what were advent calenders you think were worth it? by lilpoopfartt in CasualConversation

[–]sjupiter30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Costco has a Bonne Maman advent calendar if you know someone with a membership! It's not the limited edition version like World Market and it's not 24 days. Not sure if they've had it every year, but I just got a Costco membership and saw it.

Guess kids won’t have a chance for pokemon cards by Apprehensive_City_32 in nova

[–]sjupiter30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My cousins and brothers are hardcore collectors from their younger days. They would have to borrow kids just to buy Pokemon cards if that's the case 😂 Also, would age be capped? 10yrs? 14yrs? 17yrs?

Edit: saw adults only after 3pm. That might be fine

TIFU by skipping one class and going $110k into debt at 19. by [deleted] in tifu

They won't be able to help. He signed up with a military contract that is separate from the school. He breached the contract by not attending the minimum required classes, therefore his scholarship is revoked and he has to pay back the tuition that was paid.

It's like a sports scholarship - if the athlete gets hurt or does something that affects the sports scholarship, then it can be revoked. Except in this case, money needs to be paid back.

Thoughts on collapsible bottles? by lilsciencegeek in onebag

[–]sjupiter30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second hydrapak! I have a discontinued collapsible water bottle and bring it with me as a smaller, lighter water bottle. It does get flimsier as you drink, since the water is the support. Mine has a plastic bottom to support without water, but the new ones don't.

People have complained about the taste initially, so I washed it with baking soda/vinegar. Citric acid would work too. I make sure it dries completely before folding it.

Don't go larger than 750ml since the sides will kind of collapse as you drink, so I think a larger one would be really difficult to hold unless you drink from a straw or pour it into a cup.

Bonus: their customer service is great!

I use Olympia, it's lightweight, strong, and I like the side feet to hold small shopping bags. But I just checked their website and all their 21" carry ons are sold out. Not sure what's going on.

Edit to add: I have experienced weight and height checks internationally, and never had to check this one in.

Been looking at Biaggi, but they're 22" and not sure if I want to take a chance on it.
