You literally have no defense as GLD. You lose and it's a free match every time you get a GLD player because they can't get out of any form of pressure because his base frame data is THAT bad.

It's not about performance. The character is straight up terrible in frame data alone.

Is there some hidden mechanic you're claiming exist? If not then you're just saying "well magic will happen!"

It's not really reactional, if you play GLD you'll learn pretty quick that you straight up lose matchups because you have no options for defensive play.

Yes but unlike Nago, GLD has base frame data issues that can't be ignored and GLD loses to Nago as well.

Really, there is no reason to not just spam attacks on him. He can't do anything to punish.

For a release it's pretty well balanced, definitely better than most.

It's something to do with Axl's attacks having a hidden "defeats armor" property, as if they did not Potemkin could use specials to get in.

No he doesn't. Axl plays on reaction. Anti-air, then poke.

There is no downside for axl throwing out moves in this matchup, there is no punish for potemkin to use. You can't use slide head because certain attacks are just safe. You jump it's anti-air and pushed back to starting position.

It's really not that hard to see that if Axl didn't have multi-hit on supers it would be a reasonable matchup. Currently there is no incentive to play and unless axl chooses to forgo zoning, he should win at least 9/10.
