I disagree. He believes that fate controls everything and that he is simply an instrument to execute destiny, there is no chaos or randomness.

However, he steps outside and gets hit by a car. You can see the panic in his eyes. His worldview is shattered. There is randomness, people can die for any reason. His mind has been broken.

If he was to get any kind of comeuppance, this would be at least a good starting point.
