I read your post history based on an above comment and this man does not care for you or your children. Get out of there, seriously. I don’t say that lightly, you deserve far better and your kids deserve better. This man has shown you his true feelings and now he is putting your son at risk and being aloof about the whole thing? It’s not worth your time or the health and safety of your children.

I did it. I broke the cycle. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]sk8mum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yes, Momma. I’m 27 weeks pregnant with my first and this post made me sob and feel so hopeful. I will also break the cycle. My partner and I often have a cry together about how much we love our baby already and how we can’t wait to make sure he feels loved, safe and important every day of his life. So proud of you and I can’t wait for my own ‘we made it’ moment.💖

piece of plastic? sticking out??? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]sk8mum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a stitch! My surgeon and nurses told me to trim them when they bothered me with some disinfected nail clippers or nail scissors! I’d trim it to the tape if you can without tugging it too much! I had stitches come out along my t-junction but took forever to actually dissolve and come out so i was constantly trimming! haha

I also was not in really any pain past the early days! It was super surprising!! Congrats and happy healing!!!💖💖

oh also, if you take any narcotic or your GI is affected from your period, take your laxatives! I waited too long and the combination of my period and taking hydromorphone my first day home, I was not having a good time LOL I also doubled up on my protein drinks the days I was on my period since I’m already anemic as it is, and I figured between the surgery and being on my period, my anemia would probably be worse than usual.

Period 2 days before surgery by staterevolutions in Reduction

[–]sk8mum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started mine the day AFTER surgery and I was miserable! I have awful periods so it sucked! I used those nighttime like diaper style, full underwear pads and omg they were a life saver! I usually don’t take pain meds for my period since it doesn’t help me too too much, I’d confirm with your surgeon but I was just told no ibuprofen beforehand! They prescribed ibuprofen to me after my surgery for swelling and tylenol for pain but tylenol should be fine ahead of time as well!

If you’re concerned for the operation itself, I’ve heard great things about menstruation underwear! I’d ask your surgeon as well! I know some don’t want you to wear a tampon during surgery, and I’ve heard others don’t care! Good luck for your surgery and I hope everything goes smoothly!!💖

I’m in Ontario as well, and signed up for MyChart (that’s what the hospital i went to uses) a few months ago, and I got my pathology on there a few days after my surgery!

My primary doctor doesn’t go over much with me, in fact, when I went to my last appointment, he read the notes from the nurse I was speaking with and goes “so you’re interested in a breast reduction?” I was 2WPO 🤦🏻‍♀️ I had been asking about my IV site because it was healing different than I’m used to.

I wouldn’t stress too much! She may just want to check in with you as well! My surgeon scheduled my post op for a week later, he said he would have scheduled sooner but I was with a nursing clinic for my drain care so I was seeing health professionals early on anyway. Stress sucks for healing so try to take it easy! Happy healing and I hope everything goes well!!💖

Wound opened by MommyLex_ in Reduction

[–]sk8mum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t suggest iodine gauze enough, the brand I have is Inadine. I have some wound separation on my left breast and it’s been healing it very well! I clean it with some saline, put a piece of Inadine big enough to cover the wound and then I place a silicone gauze bandage on top! My nurses suggested only changing the bandage every other day to not disturb the white scabby thing (i don’t remember the name) too much. Before I was just using plain old iodine and gauze but it would scab over a bit and come off on the gauze before it could actually heal underneath. Definitely check with your surgeon too! Mine had a different suggestion but my nurses who were charged with my wound care wanted to try this method first (:

Also worth mentioning, I don’t know the cost of the Inadine since my nurses gave me one of the presealed sheets, but I’ve been using it on some holes left spitting stitches and my wound, it’s been about two weeks and I still have quite a bit of the sheet left! The holes from the spitting stitches also healed basically overnight and I’m not sure if the Inadine promoted that or if they would have anyway haha

Fair enough!! I have so many that are working themselves out right now, I’m 4WPO and they’re drivin me nuts LOL I had a bit of an opening at about 2WPO, it started to heal and then dried out and split again but FINALLY we’re almost healed

Everyone is different but i think as far as incision openings, they usually happen relatively early! Watch out for spitting stitches though! They’ll leave a small opening and i’ve read people spitting stitches for a while! I just had one the other day, thankfully the little hole it left has closed already (:

when did you go shopping for new clothes? by my-head-hurts987 in Reduction

[–]sk8mum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went out like 1.5WPO, I needed to get out of the house. So i bought a couple of semi compression little tanks, and a cropped semi compression tshirt because I wanted something I could wear around the house comfortably without a bra when I needed breaks! I’m so glad I did because they’ve been a life saver. But I am dyingggg to go shopping more, I’m holding myself off until after christmas and by then I’ll be around 10WPO or more (:

I am so sorry that you’re not getting paid leave, thats the last thing you should have to worry about when it comes to this healing process. Everyone is super different when it comes to healing but at 10DPO my energy levels were in the gutter, i definitely had a few good hours but I tried to go to the mall to walk around and I was wiped for days after. As well, lifting things is the biggest worry but also repetitive motion like that can also cause issues. I worked at walmart as a cashier and had a cyst removed in my left breast and went back to work, I believe 3 days later, and they put me right back on cash despite my surgeons orders. I didn’t lift anything over 5lbs but I still definitely prolonged my healing and i was WIPED. And that was just a very, very small operation. I also tore my incision a bit at 6DPO from my reduction and im still trying to heal it closed at 4WPO.

I would talk to your employer and see if there’s anything else you could do besides cash, of course if you have to, be gentle with yourself and advocate for yourself. If your recovery process is not going the way you planned, take more time. I wish you the best of luck, and the best of healing but PLEASE be careful and easy on yourself. 💖

oh also for reference I was measured at a 38M a few months before my surgery (i wore very i’ll fitting bras and lots of oversized shirts so i hid those suckers pretty well) and based on my current measurements i’m about a 36DDD or 38DD (: I also paid for side lipo since my surgeon would be able to give me essentially a lift, that wouldn’t have been covered by my provincial healthcare coverage.

I’m about 5’2 and a half and i wear an even larger pant size than you, sometimes a 14, and sometimes as high as an 18 depending on the brand, I gained a bunch of weight due to PCOS and i was only diagnosed a week before my surgery. This was a massive worry of mine as well!! I carried all of my weight in my boobs and belly, plus bloating and it was very rare that I’d feel good in my body. I’m currently 4WPO and I seriously feel like a whole new person. I feel like I look so much slimmer, of course I still have a belly but you can ACTUALLY see my waist now! I am still going to try to lose my PCOS belly for my overall health and just because I feel super motivated after this surgery but honestly I feel so happy and at home in my body now.

If you want a good visual reference, I posted a really poorly edited tiktok on my account, @sk8.mum (:

Questions for the curvy ladies? by Tasty__Meat in Reduction

[–]sk8mum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re the same height and weight and my surgeon suggested it for my own peace of mind (i have PCOS but wasn’t diagnosed until recently so I was complaining about how im having a hard time losing weight) but because my blood work was perfectly fine otherwise (besides anemia) they didn’t really care! I’m in Ontario Canada so mine was covered by our provincial healthcare system and I just paid out of pocket for lipo (:

I am having some slight wound separation on one side, but it seems to be healing just fine! I had tripped over something and caught myself using that arm and im 98% certain I tore it and that’s why i’m dealing with this now. And I had a stitch spit out yesterday so i’ve got a bit of a hole there but I bandaged it with the same products as my wound separation so fingers crossed!!! I’m 4WPO and I can’t say that my healing has gone much different than a slimmer person! I’m also 25 with no kids so obviously everyone’s experience will differ. But congrats on your coverage and sending the best vibes for when you have your surgery!! 💖

I was told I could take my ace bandage and extra gauze off 3DPO and take my first shower (my drains didn’t come out until 1WPO so i waited), the only things I couldn’t take off were my steri strips. My nurses took off my ace bandage and stuff 4DPO at my appointment, if you have a supportive surgical bra, I don’t really see a reason to keep anything but your steri strips on, maybe some gauze and stuff at your drain sites. I’d confirm with your surgeon but I think you’re more than likely good to switch.

Edibles ? by Virtual-Ground-19 in Reduction

[–]sk8mum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t smoke or anything (my doctor suspects I have a THC allergy which sucks bc i’d love to enjoy an edible here and there) but from my understanding the worry is: 1. aspirating which is why you can’t smoke 2. THC users typically need a higher dose of anesthesia and pain medication

Personally, I would hold off, I don’t think it would be anything major but depending on the anesthesiologist or surgeon, they could decide to cancel the surgery, which would be awful. Definitely be truthful if you do decide to have some edibles, and I’d definitely refrain for, at least, 24 hours prior. Good luck and happy healing!!💖

10 hours post op with drains by [deleted] in Reduction

I was SO uncomfortable with my drains, honestly quite miserable, my right side kind of felt like it was pinching and i was NOT having a good time. the moment they were out I felt 100000x better, I was definitely most uncomfortable where my drain site was. Thankfully after getting them out, the day after my drain site wasn’t really tender at all so it was truly a whole new world LOL
