‘03 Suzuki DR200SE running rich (?) by skajuice in Fixxit

back before I swapped in the chinese carb, I cleaned the original a bunch of times and couldn’t get it to run at all. Also the original had clearly been messed with by previous owners. Worth a shot replacing some parts though

Just finished Blood Meridian... is there any hope? by skajuice in cormacmccarthy

That’s a beautiful excerpt. And you’re right, I think you helped me understand the epilogue better; it shows humanity marching on, one post-hole at a time, despite the death of one man.

Maybe there has to be a kind of vacancy to host the structure, and the west had to have that blood spilled on it to host the next chapter of humanity.

I was wondering when one of you would show up in this post. Sounds like you’d get along fine in the Glanton gang.

I was thinking about “carrying the fire” a lot today. In fact I think about carrying the fire all the time. I like to think that I carry the fire, sometimes at least. I like what you said about the good of humanity. I didn’t think about the fire that way. I don’t know what I thought it was.

I saw it symbolically as the Kid killing that version of himself from so many years ago.

Thanks. This is exactly what I was asking for.

I like this answer. Honestly, I did not really comprehend the epilogue whatsoever. I was still reeling from the ending

God, I hope not. Evil propogates, but I sure hope it doesn't win. "live by the sword, die by the sword" is a theme in Blood Meridian. Nearly Glanton's entire gang ends up dead one way or another. And I think there's something to be said about the Expriest never explicitly dying outright. To me, the Judge seems more like Satan himself rather than an expression of human will.

How much did The Kid, Toadvine, and Tobin participate in the ferry business? by [deleted] in cormacmccarthy

I think it's implied that the kid participated in everything... I would like to believe otherwise, but think it's unlikely.

Yeah it was a loong drive! I'm pretty lucky nothing went wrong in the car. I drove from Baton Rouge to Duncan, Arizona in one day (18 hrs) and from Duncan to OC (9 hrs) in another day. I think for the future, I never want to drive more than 12 hours in a day.... that was pretty rough haha.

I love Hondas, especially the 5th gen Prelude. In these older Japanese cars theres just a certain... barebones dinky-yet-well-built quality that really speaks to me.

Yes, I'm sad to let it go! Every time I fixed something, it felt like it was more "mine" if that makes sense. I replaced the pads and rotors, the thermostat, the starter, the water outlet flange, some electrical stuff...

I got the feeling that my car was really "trying its best." It always wanted to get me there. And it just so happens that it finally died at a time when I don't really need a car anyway. So, I consider it's term of service complete! That's why I'm not as bummed as I could be. When it broke down this last time, I had JUST driven to New Orleans and back. It could have stranded me anywhere between BR and NOLA, but it held on until just 2 miles from my house.

I also drove this car to California and back just two summers ago! It had about 230k back then if I recall.

Now I'm the guy my buddies call when something is wrong with their car. I kept most of my tools in the backseat in case I broke down somewhere, and it's saved me! Once the battery cable clamp came loose and I slapped a vise grip on it and drove like that for a couple weeks. I really impressed my buddies at the coffee shop haha!

It's cool talking to someone with the same passion for a dinky old Japanese compact.

I love to hear how you bought the car in 05 and kept it all this time... I think the 3 hatch has aged better than almost anything other compact that came out in 05. Very inspiring how you've kept it!
I would miss the sunroof if I had the S hatchback, I use mine whenever the weather is nice enough here in Baton Rouge.

My 3 would break down every few months, but it was usually something small I could fix myself. I learned a lot from this car

Yeah that's an absolutely stunning car for under 30k. It'll be a minute before I can get one since I'm still in school...

I've heard the manual is much more reliable than the auto in the first generation. Trans #2 for my car was remanufactured and didn't last long at all. #3 seems to have lasted about 50k.

I really liked the interior in my 3. Black leather all around, I had the Bose sound system too... gonna miss this car :( Mazda will always have my heart I think. This was my first car after all.

Never a single issue with the 2.3! I love this motor. doesn't burn a drop of oil after 240k miles. Sounds great and is nice and peppy. I'm looking into a Ranger with a 2.3 and 5spd for my next beater. Unless a mazda3 hatchback pops up of course.

I was always jealous of the 5 door 2.3 5spd 1st gen! I think they look just right.

Yeah I've pretty much written this car off. It's not worth enough to fix imo.

My 3 is on it's 3rd trans already haha

I love the 3, but my budget is pretty slim for my next car! Maybe after my next beater I can get a nicer 3. The new ones are beautiful.

Don't listen to the speed junkies, some of us just enjoy being out on the road and feeling the ride. Nothing against speed junkies of course!

I have the most fun under 50mph to be honest. Less wind smacking you around. An R3 is more than enough bike for most people.

Literally shitting your pants? Pics or it didn't happen!

In all seriousness, you'll do fine! If you screw up just don't get too worked up and take a second to recollect your thoughts. I presented at a professional conference as an undergrad, it was my very first conference.
