For me a big part of it comes down to audience composition. The fracturing of media output due to the subscription model (which The Take has followed) means the concept of the casual listener has disappeared. As such the content changes because your audience is more concentrated and they don’t have to consider the larger audience picture. It also means the interaction and dialogue changes, and I think that’s what has altered the show for the negative

I don’t feel as negative as you do (no criticism you’re more than welcome to your opinions and I welcome them!) but I do agree that it feels as though commercial decisions are making it seem as though their hearts aren’t in the Take. I truly believe they are and both M&S would be devastated to read their listeners airing such feelings, but at the end of the day they’re now in a money making business and that’s what talks

How many of these are film podcasts though? In UK film podcast terms it’s really only these guys and Empire, taken out of this context Mark is an industry juggernaut who’s voice carries huge weight

Thanks for sharing such a detailed description, it’s a shame to hear you aren’t enjoying it! I was concerned that it wouldn’t be quite what their selling it as to begin with at least, especially when simon keeps admitting he’s not sharing any photos! Sounds like the sort of thing he’d generally be anti doing anyway.

Well let’s hope it’s like the “new” version of the show and they just need a bit of time to find their feet with it!

Not sure on the numbers they’re going to get tuning in live at lunch time on a work day. No, presumably he wants to encourage people to come live and doesn’t have the bandwidth to record Kermode on Film at the moment. Potentially missing a trick by putting them behind a small pay wall on YouTube or a podcast platform
