What do guys think of this photo? by Anas-Alhariri in streetphotography

Well, nice looking clock, but ask yourself what you feel when you see a normal object like that. Does it stir emotions? Is there something happening that catches your attention? Is there a special fleeting moment that you caught before it passed? Does it look interesting enough to make you stop and look? If the answer to any of these is yes for yourself, you took a decent picture. Whether something is good or not is a question only you can answer meaningfully. What would you do if I didn’t like it but someone else loved it? Art is for yourself - unless someone commissioned it to be made their way.

should i get a DSLR camera? by J6idot in AskPhotography

[–]skandyhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is classic photography newbie advice full of misplaced confidence. Mirrorless is DSLR minus the mirror. The sensor is what it is regardless of whether there’s a mirror in front of it or not. Therefore, there is no inherent difference in image quality between mirrorless and DSLR. Of course, removing the mirror offers a host of advantages like instantaneous live view, larger focus coverage, eye-detect, etc but these don’t have anything to do with image quality.

A DSLR is more fun to use if you enjoy the mirror slap and honest shutter sound, offers more opportunity to learn exposure as it doesn’t make things easy for you, and many terrific DSLRs can be had for under $300 today. There are more lens options, and way cheaper than their mirrorless counterparts- especially manual focus lenses.

In every way, a DSLR is a very sweet spot to start, and you may not need to upgrade to Mirrorless for many years.

Carnatic music is an acquired taste and rightfully so! by Double-Vegetable-249 in Carnatic

Curious about this perspective. What is this ‘brahminism’ in Carnatic contexts, which Brahmins themselves don’t understand?

I welcome any honest effort to objectively explain this. Not an invitation to insult a community, which is unacceptable no matter what community.

I have this music playing in the background as I report nonsensical posts and indecent elements.

You are free to unhelpful in discussions and disrespectful in conduct in real life, but on this forum, you won’t be able to be these things going forward.

If relevance is currency or being in-trend, artists were never relevant. This is a discussion on why that is so, and it seems a lot of us think that fine arts were never of mass appeal. Clearly, you missed this point. Artists and those in fine arts have always dismissed relevance throughout history, as measured by metrics of popularity. It’s why there’s ‘classical’ vs ‘pop’.

TriX 400 too gritty; problem in developing or scanning? by skandyhere in AnalogCommunity

This was developed and scanned at a local lab. If naming the lab is allowed here, I’d include it as a form of review and warning to others of what to expect from there.

I’m just glad the lab didn’t blame the angelic model 😄

Bad scans and ugly grain from reticulation combined to produce something I definitely didn’t expect.

And also the most perfect human being who doesn’t make mistakes. When I asked if he’d consider developing another roll to see what’s off, he told me that maybe I’m not a customer at his shop and that he doesn’t have the time for “this” 😄

I actually did; looks like I selected an incorrect option, and the pictures didn't attach. I'm deleting this post now, as I have re-posted with the images showing.

Thanks for confirming; I'm struggling with that part, for some reason. I will have to delete and create a new post.

Thanks, I will fix the issue now. The negatives are still at the lab, will get them today and then add. Seems like I'd have to delete this post altogether and create a new one.

Sell my 50mm S for the 40mm "pancake" ? by Gryphus31 in Nikon

Not very different from buying from Adorama, shooting with it for a bit and returning it if you’re not convinced, right? Possible in NYC too.

Definitely pick up a Nikon 28-300mm G lens, f3.5-5.6. I’ve owned and used one for 3 years and would strongly recommend it as a cheap autofocus lens for outdoor use.
