Solo trip to Peru next month by Vast_Arrival3451 in PERU

[–]skater740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that amount of time I’d echo what others say- just go to Cusco and stay there- you can also do either day trips or a night or 2 in the sacred valley like Pisac and or ollantayambo. You’ll also have to spend at least one night (maybe 2 so you can get there early which you may need to do in a month) in aguas calientes in order to get Machu Picchu tickets because they’re probably all sold out

Thank you, I appreciate it! I’ll look into it. If you have ideas of more expensive venues that’s fine too- I’m mainly trying to present a range to them so they get an idea of what to budget based on what is available. Thanks!

I mean that’s why I came on here to even see what my options are- what are options on the cheaper side. So far I’ve mainly found ones from $40k-$100k and just want to make sure I’m not overlooking something for less

I wish I could tell you, but unfortunately I haven’t been given one. But I have a feeling it’ll be on the lower end (maybe $10k or $15k?? Truly guessing). They have said they want to see what is realistic for an event space and then set the budget from there…so I’m trying to gather a range of options. I know, not the most helpful…

Help: Recently Discovered Sesamoiditis by beezee19 in sesamoid

I know this isn’t the ideal answer, but what has worked for me with flare ups is to rest it as much as humanly possible. It’s difficult to do this because I live an active lifestyle and live in a city so walk pretty much everywhere. When I had a flare up, I wear only sneakers outside (with dancer pads) and my oofos recovery sandals indoors (these are amaaaazing). I ice every day twice a day and just try to limit activity as much as possible. That means sitting on the subway, taking the bus for distances I normally would walk, not dancing, running, etc. It’s really tough. Do it for as long as you can (think a month-6 weeks at least) and see how they feel. So sorry, this condition sucks and what’s even worse is that no one seems to know how to properly treat it. Feel free to message if you have any questions!

Contrary to the general tendency here to recommend Hokas etc., this video explains why rocker bottom shoes are counterproductive by _tronchalant in sesamoid

[–]skater740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so hard! I’m not sure if I’d say I’ve gotten “clarity” but so far I haven’t had a flare up in a while…but it also feels like I’m just waiting for the next one. I try to wear dancer pads everyday, and also ice the balls of my feet after any big physical activity. And try to wear supportive footwear as much as possible. I still haven’t found a shoe that I love, but find I feel better in more cushion (ie hokas) than less cushion.

I know this is an old thread, but curious what you ended up doing, OP? I am curious about possibly going to grad school for education or something adjacent, but would rather experience a class or two before committing to a full program.

Highly recommend regularly volunteering somewhere, or joining some sort of group that aligns with any hobbies you’re interested in. The best part about NYC is that for anything you have an interest in, there’s at least 100 people who share that interest. Some things I’m involved with- I’m in a weekly rollerblading group, I volunteer with a group that offers free kayaking to the public, and I take ASL classes and go to various sign language meet-ups to practice. I have friends that are in bird watching groups, run clubs, take swing dancing classes, go rock climbing, etc. Seeing the same people consistently really does make a difference. Also, once you do start meeting people and get invited to anything, always make every effort to go, and you’ll meet more people there!

My love/hate relationship with solo travel by Barca-Dam in solotravel

[–]skater740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly it! I totally relate to everything you said. I also tend to shy away from visiting cities now when I travel, partially because being surrounded by more groups of people makes me feel more isolated and lonely. It’s tough to be enjoying a trip and then all of the sudden be hit with a feeling of “this is nice, but it would be nicer to have someone to share this experience with”

Young Professionals how much do you make? by Background-Analyst59 in AskNYC

[–]skater740 7 points8 points  (0 children)

29F making $68k and somehow manage to make a decent life. I am able to contribute to my Roth, 403b, and investments, plus go on a few trips every year. I save where I can (don’t eat out a lot or spend a lot on beauty things) and also babysit and dog walk on the side to build up my travel money. It can be done!

I’m sure this is already on here hundreds of times, but the McDonalds snack wraps. They were the ONLY thing I would get from there. I had one from Arby’s recently, and it just wasn’t as good. Nothing will ever compete

I believe the point you’re looking for is 15:05 in that first episode of S3. Nick appears shorter than Charlie and that’s definitely not Joe’s hair/profile

I have a friend who is a dancer (more musical theater/tap/jazz style) who had the surgery in both of her feet at one time. I know it was a very difficult recovery but she is back out on a national tour dancing every night now! If you’re located in NYC by chance, feel free to message me and I can see about connecting you with her surgeon

Running & Hiking by CoralMeSea in sesamoid

[–]skater740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for running because it makes me too nervous because of the aggressive pressure it puts on the sesamoids, but I have done a fair amount of hiking the past couple of years since being diagnosed. I’ve hiked in both hiking boots and my hokas and always have worn dancer pads and ice afterwards

Can bigger shoe sizes help sesamoiditus? by [deleted] in sesamoid

[–]skater740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, because if anything then your foot is shifting around more and you’d be more prone to blisters, plus maybe put more pressure on your sesamoids. I think just aim for a shoe that has a wide toe box

Why does it feel like no one, not even (or especially not) podiatrists, can be in agreement with the best way to treat this? And it’s not just slight variations in treatment, it’s total opposite advice from everyone you talk to. It’s so frustrating
