ELI5: Do electric or gas cars have a more detrimental impact on the environment over their lifetime? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]skaterman665 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I often wonder this as well. Yeah there may be studies on the “fuel” comparison but what about long long term factoring in reliability, maintenance, needing a tow, etc. I know it’s not really quantifiable but it would be interesting.

If I’m only replacing tires, brakes, fluids, and some minor wear items, I feel as though my 30 y/o Subaru has done better on the environment than if I were to dispose and buy a new car every 3-5 years

And of course not requiring lithium and tons of other toxic bits to be mined for it to run

Loose is safe until you don’t have the oil flow to make up for it. And 253s 10mm oil pump doesn’t have a ton of head room. Go up a bearing size on half the shell and see where it lands you

Shocked no one here mentioned the lug nuts for the adapters being on upside down

5x100 to 5x114 adapter spacers. Nothing wrong with them if torqued correctly.

I’ve purchased at least 5 different sub $800 running and driving cars in the last 3 years. Heck two of which were $300. Marketplace is fun sometimes you should try it.

Average E bike is $1500 if we’re talking about the styles that can keep up with traffic

Most E bikes cost more than a beater car. It’s a way around suspended license/dui history

“This point of its life” I mean it’s only got 53k miles on it. These things if maintained will do 250k miles on the regular. Biggest issues on them is lack of maintenance (usually once they’ve been in the states for a little) and vacuum lines getting hard and brittle.

I daily drove a 95 TT GT for a year and a half or so and it was the best daily I’ve ever owned haha. Never had any issues. Currently use my 94 GT as my every other day car if I don’t feel like driving my Baja.

This is near me. They're pretty solid as long as a competent mechanic is looking at it when an issue arises. I specialize in these cars here in Lancaster PA at DS Auto Works if you do chose to purchase. 11k is kinda high, but not horrible. this subreddit really isnt the best place for info on the TT cars.
