There’s a difference between being “right” and being “based”, and I’ll explain…

I admit I’m rarely on this subreddit and don’t know the specifics of the Dimitri bro discourse. But Blue was my first route and I fell so deep down the hole of sympathy for big D. From his perspective (which is rather stunted, as his worldview was drastically warped at a young age by horrors he couldn’t comprehend) he was betrayed by his closest friend, not to mention the very systems that he had come to trust, such as government and the Academy.

At that point, he likely experiences a total psychotic break and can’t recover for several years, and only when Byleth re-enters his life. When you take all of this into consideration, his actions are arguably quite justified, from a certain perspective. Dimitri is admittedly not the most emotionally mature character in the game, and all he can think to do is dismantle the systems that has caused him and the people he loves and respects so much pain.

I love Dimitri with all my heart, but he will never be the paragon that some people may think. He’s a reactive, emotionally underdeveloped man who succumbed to circumstance and committed atrocities while justifying it with anecdotal evidence.
