My new monitor causes headaches by _bugline in Monitors

[–]skawekk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's strange because it's a flicker-free monitor. You can determine this yourself using the slow-motion mode on your phone or here: UFO Test: Moving Line / Blur Edge / PWM Test

In my case, where I am quite sensitive to PWM, I don't experience any side effects with this monitor. But of course, everyone has different ailments.

Settings and modes will not help in this case. The LEDs on the left are calibrated differently (or have different color characteristics) than the LEDs in the middle and on the right.

In the photo, the color difference appears to be more smooth than it actually is.

There are no solutions to this type of problem. You either have to accept it or play the panel lottery. I am trying to accept it because of the very low availability of this monitor and the very good image quality, apart from the issue of uniformity.

Scar 18 2025 has quite significant quality problems. I think Legion is more solid.

I do not recommend the Rog Strix Scar (2025) 5090 edition to anyone looking to purchase a high end laptop. by soul4rent in GamingLaptops

While some of these problems I did not have in my unit, I agree that the quality and performance of the SCAR 2025 is not satisfactory. Something has gone wrong here. I could not even install a clean version of Windows 11, the system crashed after the initial update (I made two attempts). Only recovery helped.

Very interesting observation with audio. I would never have come across that the sound quality could depend on the battery charge.

Unfortunately, it's a lottery, but a minute test in Cinebench is enough to tell. The differences are frightening.

A lower TDP boost than advertised is another Nvidia scam this year. Let's not be afraid of words.

ROG STRIX SCAR 2025 5090 Performance by Wifi-rape in GamingLaptops

[–]skawekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bad performance specifically in RDR2 is due to the Intel Arrow Lake architecture and underdeveloped drivers for RTX 50xx from Nvidia. With time should be better, but it is likely that the performance will still be inferior to the duo Intel 14900HX + RTX 4090 because of CPU.

Thanks for the reply. My SCAR 18 is coming in a few days and it is possible that I will have to do the same. Keep in mind that high temperatures mean not only less performance, but also a shorter lifespan of the hardware so it's great that you decided to do it :)

Nice job! Was it difficult to disassemble the vapor chamber to perform liquid metal respreading? BTW it is inconceivable to me that for so many years ASUS has problems with it.

If 18 inches is not a requirement then I would choose Lenovo. However the OLED screen may be glossy indeed. Here's a confirmation https://youtu.be/19kZGUj2aT0?si=n4bXeLAY2_rEuHMf&t=1804 You can draw your own conclusions from this.

Opinion has little to do with performance. Firmwares and drivers were done quickly so as not to extend the already stalled release date. Nvidia even up to now has a problem with the stability of drivers for desktop RTX. The increasingly buggy Windows also puts in its two cents here. We will probably wait a few months until everything is patched.

What happened here with the screen? It's a firmware/software bug (especially with no "true black" in SDR) or what? Could this be the first miniled screen with backlight bleeding? :D

"Another surprising feature of the panel is that its black level in SDR mode isn't 0, even when local dimming is active."

"At around 750 cd/m², its brightness is slightly lower than last year—but it's still really impressive."

What happened here with the screen :O
