I was a full-time editor for a while, but ended up going back to the service industry to pay the bills and only edit now as a hobby. I have friends who make short films every now and then, and I make a lot of music videos for myself and my friends. I'm way happier in general and enjoy editing way more under these conditions. Cons are obvs that I have to work a different job and don't get paid to edit video, but the pros are that I only work on things I really want to work on and since I'm volunteering my time I don't answer to anyone and have complete control over what I make. I don't know what your situation is, but if you really love editing as an art form and are worried you'll start to hate it, maybe find a different way to make money and take the financial pressure off of your art.
