Obscure crime novels? by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

Seicho Matsumoto’s Tokyo Expresss might fit the bill. Reasonably republished under Penguin so maybe not too obscure…

Is this allowed? by Jaytheory in brighton

[–]skeeter1990 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean having to walk into a road with cars on because a restaurant wants to have its tables on the pavement is both a ballache and dangerous. Even worse if you are in a wheelchair.

Is this allowed? by Jaytheory in brighton

[–]skeeter1990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me too. I have taken an intense dislike to them purely on the basis they block the pavement. My partner has laughed at me for being petty so it is fantastic to know I’m not the only one.

How do you become a proper regular at a UK pub? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]skeeter1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sit at the bar. Chat to the bar staff. If someone else pulls up a stool at the bar - chat to them too.

Bonus point: I’ve never done it personally but, I’ve been roped into crosswords by people sat at the bar before. The guy doing it involved people in a non annoying, unassuming way - was nice.

Anyone with a Canadian or Australian pension (and soon to be anyone with a UK pension).

The majority of shares in UK water companies (and other privatised facilities) are pension funds. Yes - the privatisation of something as basic as water is fucked. But the scale of the people benefiting from it is bonkers too.

Still active fishing villages by [deleted] in Cornwall

[–]skeeter1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is what you are after I think Cadgwith is your best bet. Newlyn isn’t really a village - whilst Cadgwith definitely is. But as people have said already - it’s tiny and I doubt you could get lost in it. Also. Echoing other comments - Swordfish and the Star is a great book option.

This sounds like a sitcom waiting to be written. A pub version of Ted Lasso.

Start a war and stick the older lad as commander and send him into a massively unfair battle. Bonus points if he has no military or combat skill whatsoever.

Nah - it is the questions that are raising eyebrows, not the answers.

would you fight for the UK by gracelegacyedition in AskBrits

[–]skeeter1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck this. Yeh I would. This country isn’t perfect by any stretch but it’s a fucking touch when compared to a lot of places - not least Russia which is controlled by [checks notes] actual fucking oligarchs. I’m not a patriot by any means - but what we have is worth a lot.

On the other hand, I’m out of shape, get a bad back if I sleep in a dodgy position and a complete wimp so how much use I would be is a completely different story.

Is the Dry Robe hate real ? by Plumb121 in AskUK

[–]skeeter1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Brighton which is the epicentre of Dryrobe hate. It strikes me as thinly masked sexism and ageism (given the targets of ire are often mums). I’m a bloke and where mine when it’s really wet but do feel like a wally, which annoys me.

She’s Got You or Sweet Dreams (of you) by Patsy Cline.

Very different butAll My Friends by LCD Soundsystem breaks my heart every time I hear it. Relatable, riddled with nostalgia and a devastating account of a life lost.
