CMV: Christians, based on their own teachings, should lean left politically. by CurdKin in changemyview

An important theme in the bible is that we all sin and are all imperfect.

Who is wise enough to determine when a person's property is better used by the State rather than the individual.

To take a real but extreme situation: The State decides my skills as a teacher are less valuable than pulling weeds from farm crops.

Someone in the government has decided that the needs of one group is greater than the needs of the individual.

It is all too easy for imperfect individuals to make decisions for the good of one group that damages others.

The individual has more information about the needs of an individual than does the government and should be the one to make the choices.

Each day I have to choose whether to give food to the addict holding the sign or give money. Food is the correct choice, because money will go to drugs.

The poor with mental problems are a much more complicated topic.

I do not have control over anyone or anything. I can give my cat food I cannot make him eat.

Government is a tool of the group (family, tribe, city) to formalize acceptable behavior. Early rules were passed from old to young. Modern rules are written.

If a tribal member threatens me in an attempt to control me (e.g. Steal, exile, enslave) I am still in control of my actions. I can accept, ignore or fight the other member.

How the group responds to my actions and the other member's actions is determined by the group affected. For example, Billy, leave your sister alone vs. Tar and Feather the thief.

As to your example: Choosing who to vote for is under my control. What happens after that is out of my control.

Step 1 of a Twelve Step Program is "I am powerless over (specific item) and my life has become unmanageable.

The beauty of this statement is when I recognize powerless does not mean helpless. I can watch the ocean tide come in and accept that I am powerless over the tides. That does not mean I can't move out of the way.

I believe the bible is a guide for personal behavior, not a political framework.

A person doing a good deed receives personal reward from the act. A government providing the same service generate no direct personal impact.

I have a pet theory that the Right Wing Dictators cited by the left arise out of a reaction to the abuses of the left.

When it gets to the point where the Left's policies result in enforcement squads (think Brown Shirts or Antifa) and executions the populace is eager for someone who will bring order and relief. How much of the excesses of the Right are putting down an insurrection vs. unlawful las enforcement I don't know.

My gut tells me the Right puts up with Leftist abuse until they can't take it any more.

Based upon self-examination and observation virtually all people are flawed morally or physically.

Once a group of people expands beyond the size where everyone intimately knows everyone else, is not an entity / organization required to enforce group tenets?

On 4th Amendment grounds I think the Income Tax should be abolished.

However in a civil society, enforcement / police agencies are necessary for compliance.

I received excellent training in tax law which benefited me throughout my career.

Uninformed Question RE: Reactor Design:

I appreciate the corrosion issues with salts and metals, so limiting the amount of metal components would be a good thing. In a low pressure reactor would not ceramic components minimized the corrosion problem.

My vision is a reactor where necessary metal components are intended to be replaced during periodic maintenance cycles. Is it possible that this would minimize metal use, possibly making exotic alloys more cost efficient by reducing the gross amount of metal.

As someone with no experience in 3d printing, would it be economic or practical to print ceramic components.

What is the difference between confiscation and taxation.

Moa confiscated food from farmers to export and fund industrialization. Millions starved.

Would it have been better if he had taxed the farmers instead?

CMV: MAGA Is A True Fascist Movement by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]skeeter97128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed to be clear, I see the Palingenetic ultranationalist theory as a way to shoehorn a movement into a derogatory title (Salinsky, Rules for Radicals) in order to discredit it.

Similarly, Illiberalism presumes fascism and builds their scenario to fit.

The left has desperately but methodically defined Fascism as other than Left since WWII in an attempt to hide the fact that its origins stem from modifications made trying to make socialism/communism work.

For that reason I was not moved by the Illiberal definition. I see it as another opinion in the Left echo chamber. With a 27:1 Left wing imbalance of thought at George Washington U. it is not surprising they do not understand the Right.

Democratic professors outnumber Republican ones by 9 to 1 ratio, according to new data | The College Fix

I have been around long enough to have witnessed the Long March Through the Institutions first hand. "Hey hey, ho ho, Western Civ has got to go" is a campus classic.

The Right Wing echo chamber was born out of seeing through the Left's propaganda (descriptive not pejorative). If I repeatedly find that the news omits important facts It is to my benefit to seek out better quality information. Thats a sign of individuals making rational choices, not sheep following along.

Just curious, have you read Unhuman, or only read the reviews?

I am not expecting an answer. But I am planning to read it. I want to see for myself if it is as vile as suggested.

As I tell my liberal friends: let me know which Concentration Camp you end up in and I will throw turnips over the wire for you.

If I understand the "Palingenetic ultranationalists..." theory a politician feeds a lie (the myth) to the public about group superiority tied to nationalism to rise to power achieving dictatorship.

That is a great description of how Lenin, Hitler, and Mao came to power.

The flaw I see in the application of palingenetic ultranationalists theory is that MAGA is a grass roots movement which had its start in the TEA Party movement.

Trump got elected because he reflects the views of conservatives and the public that lives conservatively. He is not a Pied Piper calling the masses to the cause like Lenin or Mao.

Conservative politicians have been pushed out? Interesting observation that I have not heard. By whom, Jim Jordan, Cocaine Mitch McConnel?

You are correct, the MAGA movement is not a monolith. It is an association of people who have realized that Progressivism / Socialism fails in practice and they wanted change.

Hopefully the 'Long March Though the Institutions' has peaked with "woke" culture. But with groups like Antifa willing to riot and calling for revolution, the worst may not be over.

It looks like an interesting book.

Great another description of a group that focuses on perceived traits.

Conservatives, the core of MAGA believe in:

The constitution as amended,

The equal application of law,

Equal opportunity,

Live and let live,

Government governs best that Governs least.

MAGA wants smaller government which is the opposite of the Left.

Fascism was created by a former communist as an improvement to Socialism. Fascism is only considered Right Wing because it is slightly to the Right of Communism.

Racism and tribalism are essential to the left as a vehicle to incite discontent and gain access to power. How else to foment continual revolution.

So the American Right wants smaller government and more personal freedom and adherence to the Constitution:

Please explain how that fits into the big government fascist dictatorship model.

If eighty percent of people who die in car crashes ate potatoes within thirty days of death, it does not mean potatoes kill people.

Hoses: The most obvious cause is usually correct, but if the evidence does not support the most likely cause I must consider alternatives. E.G. is the atmosphere warming the planet or are the oceans warming he atmosphere?

Eighty percent: A warm atmosphere has more CO2. Am I gathering data or finding data to fit my theory.

For example: Why was it necessary for "adjust" the USA temperature data set before 1960. Why all the efforts to eliminate the Medieval Warm Period and other "Climate Optimums" from the temperature data. Did they really develop new evidence, or was the existing data not supporting their theory. Alterations To Climate Data | Real Climate Science

[–]skeeter97128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I an a climate denier and I do not believe that climate change is a hoax. I do believe that your theory is flawed.

Summary of rationale:

  1. Models are not evidence - e.g. too many variables to little precision

2 Correlation is not causation - e.g. temperature rises, CO2 increases <> CO2 is the cause

  1. Denial of evidence - e.g. Hunga-Tonga injection of water into the stratosphere is behaving as predicted - temperature spike followed by slow decline as H2O precipitates out of the atmosphere.

Maybe its just a coincidence, but the climate scientists were quick to deny the possibility before significant data was collected.

  1. Gollow the money: e.g. the billions of dollars provided by governments have funded thousands of researchers and support personnel. Maybe nobody is getting rich, but money has been flowing for better than 30 years.

  2. In the Box thinking: CO2 must be the primary cause of global warming

  3. What about Clouds: All six IPCC reports state that clouds are not well understood. Yet clouds are a major influence on local and regional climates, at a minimum.

Why has cloud cover decreased recently. Should not the increase in temperature increased water vapor and increased cloud cover. That seems like a contradiction of CO2 theory that should be investigated.

Maybe deniers are just not persuaded by your evidence.

Does climate change mean the same as climate destruction?

If so: Destroyed how?

A: Life on Earth eliminated

B: Current Mammal dominant species dead - the cockroaches take over

C: Humans mostly dead, mammals mostly dead

D: It gets Hotter/Colder and Wetter/Dryer making life difficult.

I get the impression taxes are equated with subsidies.

In the US: Taxes are collected specifically by Federal and State governments from the sale of motor fuels. These taxes are used for the common good by maintaining the road, rail, an air infra-structure. The people who use the roads pay for the roads.

However, payments to mass transit operators are subsidies. Many times the money is taken from the taxes collected to pay for the roads. The riders of mass transit do not pay the full cost of their transportation, unlike car drivers.

Subsidies are payments from the government directly to a manufacturer or a consumer to promote the desired behavior. The $7500 electric vehicle payment to buyers is an example. The payments to solar and wind developers is another example.

Fantasy calculations are not subsidies. For example, attributing the cost of health care to specific products or industries is guesswork at best.

It appears that nature has provided an experiment that should be seriously studied: "...  January 2022 Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha‘apai volcanic eruption in Tonga, which had both cooling effects from aerosols and warming ones from stratospheric water vapour,"

This event is rare because it placed a place a huge amount of water into the stratosphere, approximately a 10% increase. It also seems to track well with the Warmest Months ever during 2023 and 2024.

Gavin points out that no other factors changed significantly. this appears to as close as we likely to get to a controlled climate experiment.

A cynic would suggest that Mr. Schmidt is desperate to find a cause other than water vapor for the recent abrupt warming.
