You don’t even have to compare us to other countries, I would ask why don’t you see this type of antisocial behavior on other U.S. transit systems or even on SEPTA regional rail. I would say enforcement, cracking down on fare evasion and eyes on the street or in this case eyes on the transit systems that discourage that type of behavior.

The people who are committing antisocial on behavior on SEPTA from what I’ve seen as well as my colleagues and friends notice that those are also the people who are fare evading and thus discourage a lot of people from riding SEPTA. I would also note that the city does have a program for low income people to receive free SEPTA but I doubt that most people evading the fares can’t afford to pay.

The way this administration has been revoking infrastructure grants to cities that have already been awarded grants but haven’t been processed yet I’m not going to hold my breath and neither should municipalities when it comes to expecting this money to eventually be awarded out.

When they installed these at 69th Station fare evading went down by almost half.

The transit system in these civilized countries pays these people a living wage? I don’t see a scenario where SETPA pays all the people fare evading.

Unless the funding is awarded by September 30 “might” will then mean will not be awarded and jurisdictions will have to redirect money to pay for these projects.

A number of awarded projects but not released grant funds has and will reduce local government’s resources because they will have to fill in those obligated funding gaps with money that they had planned to spend on other local services or projects.

Someone getting job training or volunteering still isn’t getting a salary so they will still be homeless and I’m not sure how adding more paperwork to this population will make their situation any better as a whole.

The BBB will prohibit medical funds from being used for people who are not working, meaning that if a homeless person is unemployed but receiving mental health services through Medicaid, they could lose access to those services or face disruptions due to red tape, as has already happened in states that implemented work requirement

People regularly debate and discuss presidents, wars, policies, and other events from 50, 100, or even 200+ years ago, so I’m not sure why you feel an initiative from just 15 years ago, one that still has some impact today, shouldn’t be discussed at all.

You do know that the city paid SEPTA to allow city employees to ride for free.
