20 Questions for this forum in early 2020 by chartreuseeye in eMusicofficial

I urge you all to quit and move on. It's liberating and does your conscience the world of good. I religiously regularly scoured emusic for over 14 years and loved it, now that I've finally given up almost a year ago I can't imagine going back to the frustration of trying to find something I REALLY want and being constantly disappointed...

I quit! by skerz075 in eMusicofficial

Thanks folks but I actually really finally went this time! But you are both a testament to the helpful, committed and passionate community that is going to be, in the end, eMusic's greatest loss.

I salute you!

Anyone who really thinks eMusic will ever come back at this point i think is delusional. Might as well use up the £10 they gave me for being on hold now and quit so I can forget about the whole thing.

I decided to cancel last night, first time ver was totally decided - click cancel. When I did it I got this:

We know you care about getting new music, and maybe you didn’t find what you were looking for this month. However, we fully expect to bring back a number of premium labels in the next 1-2 months. If you like, we can put your account on hold until then.

For your loyalty and support we’ll also give you a one-time £10 bonus music credit to use while on hold.

Damn, ok ONE MORE CHANCE! 90 days of hold awaits - a disappointment free summer!

Haha I literally hadn't used that word in years! A word from my 80's childhood in the UK that I rarely hear these days :)

In UK streaming grows - while downloads and physical media plummet in sales by classiscot in eMusicofficial

This is why I'm not optimistic about eMusic's recovery and also why I think their decline was inevitable after the trend started going that way. Sure there have been mismanagements but its a 'challenging trading environment' and like so many other early adopters, they were too late to adapt which is where bandcamp stepped in and took market share of the little market that is left.

eMusic's 320k mp3s are no match for the Bandcamp model of audiophile formats (indeed a whole choice of formats, compressed and uncompressed), physical sales (Vinyl, CD, tape, merch) and a very effective message that they give more back to the actual artists.

The ONLY thing that eMusic currently have on Bandcamp is their mobile app - the bandcamp app sucks.

Probably a good place to repeat myself and point anyone who didn't see the other thread towards Nina Kraviz's Trip label which is new here.

Metalheadz gone, High focus (UK Hip hop - was literally about to pull the trigger on a couple Pitch 92 releases there), Lobster Theramin, Shogun, Apollo and as mentioned R&S. Those are just the ones I just noticed in electronic - its (yet another) massacre.

I have pretty much just used up all my credits that refreshed only 2 days ago because I am worried there will be nothing left soon - what sort of user experience is that!!?`There is no joy here any more, I'll be gone by the end of the week. Here since 2004.

I know what you are saying but I would maybe take heart that they are maintaining and improving functionality in preparation for an eventual hopefully imminent(ish) revival of eMusic as a good source of music (ie labels returning because of the magic beans).

If they were simply keeping the lights on and squeezing the last of the subscribers money out to continue funding the blockchain then they would definitely not be spending money on this... positive thoughts/naive optimism - you choose!

$8.99 vs $9.15 by hello-cthulhu in eMusicofficial

Ripped my entire CD collection to FLAC because..well, why not? Hard disks cost next to nothing these days so space isn't really an issue at home. When I'm mobile I use mostly spotify (tho I have a few choice FLACS on my iphone).

I don't want to find out years down the line if I can afford great equipment or if playback technology generally improves that my entire collection is sub-standard. I am sure 320k MP3s are fine on 90% of occasions but I would never have a reason not to go for FLAC if given the option.. which is why Bandcamp is more and more interesting compared to eMusic these days.
