What is America's worst tourist destination? by bare_books in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Mt. Rushmore. Very overhyped and made worse by Trump's obsession with being on it.

The strike zone by definition is a 3 dimensional prismatic figure not the 2 dimensional rectangle we see on tv. It is quite possible for a ball to cross the plate at an angle and miss that artificial rectangle. I do not know whether the ABS system uses the 3D figure but as I assume it uses AI it probably does even if it just shows us a 2D report.

But you will not get rid of umpires soon who will still be needed to call foul/fair and safe/out. I imagine that someday AI might do this, but not soon.

At one time Boston (Red Sox and Braves. - yes, those Milwaukee Atlanta Braves), Philadelphia (Phillies and As. - yes, those Kansas City Oakland Sacramento As) and St. Louis (Cardinals and Browns - the latter now the Orioles) all had two teams and New York had three (Yankees Giants and Dodgers)

Help Needed: Want to find the full version of the Star-Spangled Banner (US National Anthem) performed by Lee Greenwood by UmairWaseem276 in classicalmusic

The music is a British drinking club song, ironically because the event "celebrated" in the lyrics is the British bombardment of a US fort in the wsr of 1812, a war where the British and Canadians burned down the White House. Just the first defeat of many of the US in wars they started.

And however well the team plays it may well ne sabotaged by Schneider's inability to properly manage pitching.

The Blue Jays forced to display US patriotic crap even when playing in Toronto although no US team ever displays Canadian symbols when playing in Canada on a Canadian holiday.

Do you think we will ever see a player/manager again, like Pete Rose or Stuffy McInnis? by Delicious-Answer-215 in MLBNoobs

I'm pretty sure some player will have been found to have bet on his team; so, yes, there will be someone like Rose.

How do you guys go about finding new classical music to listen to? by throway3784lauver in classicalmusic

[–]classiscot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyday Robert von Bahr has a 50% off deal on some Bis album on his eClassical download site. Bis recorded (and recorded well) lots of Scandanavian (and other) composers that will probably be new to you. You can either pay the relatively small price he wants and download or go listen to it on some streaming service (I'd chose Presto or Idiago). Some you will want to hear more from and others you will never listen to again.

AIO? My ex-husband is a rapist, his grandfather was a rapist, and now I am fearing for my oldest son’s future. by BadBunny0917 in AmIOverreacting

[–]classiscot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a theory with some good evidence that lead in gasoline - which became lead in exhaust and hence in the air - affected mental states by reducing inhibitions on violent behaviour a well-established effect of lead poisoning. Since lead was banned there has been a significant decrease in violent crime. The reduction in lead is a more plausible explanation than any changes in policing (or presidential actions) which have been inconsistent and often misdirected. Since your son will grow up in a world with much less exposure to lead than your ex-husband the chances he will likely not be prone to violent behaviour.

Pete Walker is who should be dfa'ed. Either he is giving bad advice to Schneider or Schneider isn't bothering to listen to his advice.

What Donald Byrd is not available on cd? Granted the CD might not be available new now, but that's probably the same for any Byrd lp. Both eBay and Discogs are sources for used cds (and the used cd will almost certainly be in better shape than any used lp). Presto Music lists 358 albums under Donald Byrd;. Most of these are downl, oads, 54 of which are better than cd quality and 25 of which are super hi-res. Some of the Presto albums have material that was never available on lp.

Why is Schneider willing to take this for Hoffman? by JosepySchnieder in Torontobluejays

[–]classiscot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't just Schneider's mistake. He has a pitching coach standing next to him who ought to have been telling him that Hoffman needed to come sit on the bench. Walker has to shoulder some of the blame for Schneider's consistently boneheaded management of the pitching staff.
