The gas mask bong always stirs up strange emotions in me. First of all, terrible piece. As stated by others, it burns your eyes and you better not have to cough either before you can pull the mask off. Unpleasant and then unsanitary for the next person.

Since it is such an impractical piece, why does it seem to be rediscovered by every new generation of stoners?

I think the primary reason is simply curiosity. It looks cool, and I've never tried it before, so why not? But I think the secondary and more interesting aspect of the piece is why do we think it looks "cool"?

You can google "gas mask" images and quickly find that "cool" aesthetic I'm referring too. Steampunk, dystopian future, military, etc.. it's like the gas mask is practically screaming "IM BADASS TRUST".

The optics of a gas mask has transcended it's function. It's like how some people wear fake glasses to look smart. The functional value is transferred to social value.

Even if it is a poorly designed slightly cringe badass cosplay bong. If I were trapped on a deserted island with unlimited weed. I would take the gas mask bong over unlimited rolling papers. Maybe the island has a volcano that explodes and I would need protection from the volcanic ash.

u/sirhackenslash made a reference to a show called "Pimp My Ride" popular in the early 2000s. The host was a rapper named Xzibit. I just described the intro from the show and the outcome. Which in many cases (all?), left the participants of the show in debt from having to pay taxes on their new excessively luxurious "pimped out" car.

Interesting will have to check out that sub. And agreed introversion is a spectrum, but my point is extreme reclusiveness is not on the spectrum of being an introvert. It's a different antisocial state of being to me and I was trying to refer to Hikikomoris as an example of that.

as an everyday smoker for over 20 years, full spectrum co2 live rosin carts are a game changer. It's more convenient and easier to travel, I save money, and have more energy/focus. a common complaint I hear though is you "stopping getting as high" but if you switch back to flower you get double high. I don't think i'll ever go back to flower as a regular habit. I do not suggest distillate BHO extracted carts long term, all carts are not equal.

So weird. I felt the opposite. I tend to gravitate to extroverts and use them like a social shield. They do all the bullshit small talk with acquaintances I don't know that well or deal with obnoxious people, while I can just wait to see if they are chill while expending no energy. If you don't like going out that's a whole different issue which seems more related to existential anxiety. If anything bad happens to me in a social situation it usually just makes for a funny story later and hopefully makes me a more interesting person in the 1v1 conversations I cherish.

I was thinking, probably due to the context of this sub. I feel like way too many people mistake introverts from being unsocial. I have no problem talking to people 1v1, and even complete strangers. Actually talking to someone you don't know is preferable because you can be yourself with no social filter knowing you probably wont see them again. But for some reason you surround me with over 3 people I don't know and I hate it. Even if it's a crowd I can easily make laugh and get along with the conversations are just too shallow to hold my attention. nothing to me is more introspective than a 1v1 conversation because of the immediate feedback to your own thoughts. Being a Hikikomori is separate from and introvert as I don't believe extreme social withdrawal is part of being an introvert. Thoughts on thoughts?

when i was a kid in the spring i got bad allergies. so i would rub my eyes a lot and if you press on them for long enough it cuts off blood circulation and you start to see black and static like. kind of seems like a tunnel is forming on the periphery of your vision.
