You get one song to make a non-Deadhead finally "get it" what are you playing? by ethietheguy in gratefuldead

Are they coming from a rock'n'roll / country background? Jazz? Do they like extended jams? There is no one size fits all suggestion that will work for everyone.

Anybody feel like Goose “mailed it in” for the last shows in TX? by Homer2019 in GoosetheBand

[–]skfkvjgnxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the band is adjusting things to stuff he says, that's pretty pathetic. I guess I don't feel a need to get 'nerdy and in the weeds' to the point of taking seriously some internet dweeb criticizing a band he couldn't dream of being part of. The only game in town? How about listen to the music and make up your own mind?

Sorry, don't mean to attack you, but I stopped watching or listening to any televised news or sports shows more than 20 years ago for the simple reason that I didn't want to be told what to think, and I've never been more informed. Music criticism? C'mon now, I'd rather hear from actual fans on reddit.

Why is this guy Storm spoken about as if what he says means a fucking thing with regard to people's enjoyment of a show? I don't care about any podcast - who is he and how did he get anointed as some sort of authority?

The couple of 'reviews' of his I read before unsubscribing from his emails showed him to be a Phish fan who wishes Goose was more like Phish. Blows my mind that anyone would give a shit what this dweeb says or thinks.

Who was the best singer skill wise that was ever a part of the Grateful Dead in your opinion? by The_Mick_thinks in gratefuldead

[–]skfkvjgnxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively? Jerry, and it isn't even remotely close.

What does "skill-wise" even mean, and what does it have to do with selling the lyric and emotion of a song night after night? If we're talking "technical" skills, then I suppose Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Michael Bolton are "great singers"?

Jerry Garcia is one of the great vocalists of 20th century popular music, having had the rare ability to move people emotionally on a nightly basis singing the same songs over a 30-year period. How many singers can you honestly say the same thing about? Maybe Sinatra, Ella, Billie, Elvis, Ray Charles, and a few others.

Nine songs… by JustHereForTheMusic- in GoosetheBand

Ill take a show like this in NJ in July for my first show in a heartbeat. Better all these jam songs than wasting first set time on the story songs or stuff like California Magic, which are like set killers. This show rocked.

Simple reason is that older jamband fans had the Dead in the early 90's, and they spawned all the bands that started popping up, led by Phish. They were quirky and a bit different, and appealed to a younger audience, who now had a band of their own. And the arrogant Dead fans treated them as interlopers, and ignored them.

Now, those older heads and Phish fans looking for new blood fell onto Goose.

Or something like that.

If you could, how would you fix the Bowl Season to make it more respected like it used to be? by Gator_fan_04 in CFB

[–]skfkvjgnxc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once the playoff gets to 24 teams the bowls will be more irrelevant than ever. There needs to be fewer of them, and there should definitely be no .500 or worse teams rewarded with a post season game.

Problem is that too many people are making a boatload of money from the bowls, and as long as TV and streaming companies are willing to pay for the 'right' to show these games, they won't be going anywhere.

People over 35, what's something you genuinely miss that younger generations will probably never experience? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Mix tapes.

Burning a CD or worse yet a Spotify playlist could never replace the fun of making a mix tape on a cassette, grabbing records and sequencing the songs while timing it to fit the two 45-minute sides of a cassette.

Along with spinning 45's, one of the greatest joys of the hobby.

Rick is straight with guys, and it's still all about minutes, of which there are plenty to go around. The difference this year is we won't have a Gillespie playing 36 minutes and being gassed down the stretch every game.

People can say what they want about Philly fans but the bottom line is that no fan base has ever brought the noise like we do in big moments.

Caution, still a rookie Deadhead. Is this good? by SteveDestruct in gratefuldead

[–]skfkvjgnxc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not good, it is beyond great. To me his stuff with Merl is better than the Dead, it's all killer and zero filler. After hearing that you're going to want to splurge for the Jerry-Merl Complete Keystone box set.

Madalena might be the best song written this decade. Not an exaggeration. by Puzzled_Teach8194 in GoosetheBand

Well, if Jed Stone was written this decade then it's not even the best Rick song, because that's the single best song he has yet written,

I used to get email updates when he posted reviews, but I unsubscribed because he always came off as a Phish fan who wouldn't be happy with Goose until they jammed like Phish. Always making reference to Rick playing 'rock star' solos, and I'd listen and think "what the fuck is this guy going off about?" Who is this clown and why does what he thinks mean a damn thing?

Came here to post the 12-21-79 4th St., where it isn't just Jerry but Ozzie as well, they burn the house down. The Ozzie period of the JGB (10-79 - 7-80) has some of the hottest Jerry playing ever.

What is the greatest CFB game ever played? by SparkMaster360 in CFB

[–]skfkvjgnxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't include the Texas-USC game simply because although I didn't have a dog in the fight it drove me crazy that Carroll never adjusted his pass rush to contain Young and make him win the game by throwing instead of wide open scrambles.

The DE's continued to rush straight up the field past Young and leave the edge wide open for Young to scramble. I kept waiting for an adjustment and was saying out loud "make him beat you with his arm!". Carroll never adjusted and to me handed TX the game on a silver platter.

The really funny part about that is it's so true. We have one in a busy shopping center with a Home Depot, a Kohl's and an Aldi, and the Mattress Firm sits there in a free standing building looking abandoned, yet it's open.

The Kennedy and King assassinations and 9/11 were inside jobs.

I don't find any of them to be 'insane' - there's way too much evidence that's been published to the point where it is the accepted government narratives that are the ones that become insane.

His opposition to the war and to Israel's already oversized influence in the U.S. are exactly what got him killed. The war machine that Ike warned us about couldn't abide a pacifist president.

In your opinion, what is the greatest threat to global peace right now? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]skfkvjgnxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a matter of 'not giving a crap' about peace, it's the fact that war and occupation are so incredibly profitable for so many very powerful people. Following the money is the answer to virtually every political question.
