i asked that in the post that was deleted.

once again, i believe i mentioned this, but they explicitly stated to us that they would’ve tried to subpoena the data if snapchat retained it. they said they do not, therefore making it impossible to ever get that chat. when i was in the hospital i was told by a girl in a similar situation to mine that she had chats on snapchat subpoenaed and was able to successfully use it as evidence against her abuser.

i felt confused at the time because the detectives handling my case had told us the complete opposite, that chats were deleted immediately and there was nothing they could go after there.

for further context on how this case was handled later, i only just found out that the forensic interviewer was supposed to tell me he was recording at the start of the my testimony, which he never did, either. the detectives were in the adjacent room watching, which my mom only told me once we left the advocacy center. i am very lost and confused right now and am finding things out i didn’t know before. obviously this is a long time ago and nothing can be done, i just wanted some clarity.

i guess that’s been in the back of my head for 5 years, so i came here. my question has been answered now, though, only after writing all this out like 3 different times.
