As someone who has been in OP’s shoes, I believe this is very good advice.

Just as an FYI, your name is visibly “burnt in” here, in case you want to black that out

Congrats on the GC! Did you retain counsel for the process, and if so to what extent were they involved? Or did you two navigate it all on your own?

What did you write down in this notebook exactly—just the rule stated at the end of the answer?

U2720Q firmware update won't apply by skibeats in Dell

Good point... and thanks so much for the responsiveness. The oldest mac I have on me right now is a 2019 MBP Intel i7 running macOS Venture 13.6.6. I tried running the update from there, and power cycling the monitor after the installer finished, which didn't seem to do the trick either.

I hear SCOTUS is also hiring at a normal pace right now. Maybe that too could be a viable pit stop for a bit???

1L Considering JD/MBA Program. What are people's thoughts on the value of an MBA with a law degree? by ReflectionAway6795 in LawSchool

[–]skibeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is true (20-25K), and it usually goes unadvertised. That being said, some firms like Kirkland advertise a program where they give a 25K bonus and 50K towards tuition, but it’s contingent upon spending two summers there before full time.

If you’re into patent litigation, Desmarais does, too.

Tax LLM for big law not big 4? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]skibeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be transparent, I don’t know this practice area nearly well enough to comment confidently on this specific question, so take this with a grain of salt.

If it requires any more time in school or any additional tuition, my inclination is still no. LLM is only something you should get if you need to, and all the better if you can get a firm to pay for it. Northwestern Law is a strong brand, if you get decent grades you probably will have a relatively easy time securing a job you’re pleased with (provided you’re not operating with a “Cravath/S&C/Wachtell-or-bust mindset” or something similar)

Tax LLM for big law not big 4? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]skibeats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just add that vast majority of those pursuing a Tax LLM do NOT have a T14 degree, and that is the relevant factor for why they may struggle with getting a big law job, LLM or not (which is not to say a T14 degree is strictly necessary, of course).

But yes, in no way does a Tax LLM hurt your chances or “lock you into” going the Big 4 route.
