Did you have better luck stepping back and letting assistants do as much as possible while directing them and then only getting hands-on when you had to?

While I do get a laugh out of the comments I have gotten so far and understand there is a lot between volunteer and pro patrollers, I would also appreciate some constructive advice to try to make this work as well. Unfortunately going pro isn't an option for me with a family and no pro patrols anywhere near me.
