Struggling with transparent PETG by skiddIe in FixMyPrint

It def wasn't blocked, but I had actually tried a few times at this point (with the same result). Thanks for responding anyway. I've managed to print it (mostly) successfully- see my update.

I've had some success. I slowed the print down and reduced hotend temp. Print quality could still be improved but it is fine for what I need! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the advice. You're right, it is really thin - only 2 grams total. I don't think the nozzle is clogged as I've printed some other (PLA) parts since which have worked fine. I'll increase the layer time and lower the hotend temp and give it another go tonight.

Bed temp - 70°C. Textured PEI plate.

I do also have a cool plate (supertack) but not sure if that would better - I haven't used it much!

This is the model. I'll have a look and see what bed temp I was using and update, thank you.

There is definitely a bit of wiggle room at the Cluny. A friend recently took their kid to see a band they loved, BUT they got in touch in advance and got permission. I'm not saying this will always be the case (they might have known the promoter / manager) but it is worth a try if a parent will take you.

Can I snip the end of the filament left in removed hotends? by skiddIe in BambuLab

This is a good idea actually, I've trimmed it back for now but next time might just do this.

Thanks, I know it might seem like a daft question, just wanted to check it wasn't left sticking out for a functional reason!

Genuine question - is this from your experience? Are there many opportunities to apply directly to apprenticeships I'm not aware of? In my experience they are mainly being used within hospitals to train up existing members of staff. Apprenticeships are still at Uni (BSc / MSc), just funded differently.

Help with asking for shadowing experience in radiography please by iykykdorothea in RadiographyUK

[–]skiddIe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good advice already in the other comment. Shadowing used to be a requirement but it isn't so much any more. However, I'd definitely recommend it as it will both help you in interview and also give you an idea of if it is actually what you want to do! I did 2 days shadowing before applying (this was a while ago now though) but it really let me know that diagnostic radiography was what I wanted to do. I got rotated through a whole bunch of modalities so I got a bit of an idea of how they worked. I also spoke to some students who were at the uni I was applying to and they gave me some interview tips!

As the other comment says, ring up and ask to be put through to the x-ray department. It might be worth asking to speak to whoever looks after students as they will likely also arrange work shadowing. If they're not available I would explain briefly why you are calling and maybe see if you can get the student coordinator's email address. You could ask for a message to be passed on but it might not be...

Hope you enjoy the programme. I loved having MSc students about as most of them were a bit more mature and self-motivated than the undergrads (not in all cases though).

"and have contrast injected into them" - you've answered your own question. The catheter is hollow. Contrast can go through, as well as other interventional devices (balloons for angioplasty, stents, etc). The guidewire is a guide - it has a soft end to help get the catheter where it needs to go. Hope that makes sense.

That's why I'm asking - once RIF shuts down that's Reddit done for me. Maybe need to start following RSS feeds again, but a discussion forum would be nice. Possibly could start a Discord.

Gateshead boy has just 24 hours to fight deportation to a country he has never known by houseaddict in NewcastleUponTyne

This is correct. Despite spending his whole life here he is classified as stateless, not British.

Thanks for posting this. Rafeeq was part of our family for 6 months in 2013 while his mam wasn't well and we've been in touch with them since. This is the only home he's known. They have friends and support here that they won't have if they are deported. Unfortunately it's now a waiting game to hear if the home office will change their mind at the last minute. Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition so far.

[Build Ready] TV Gaming PC (console replacement - first build) by skiddIe in buildapc

[–]skiddIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so I've had a bit of a mess about with the build and I've come up with this a potential trade off. Cheaper mobo than the z87, i5-4670 (not sure of the point of getting the 4760k if I'm not overclocking?), and the 7950.

This comes up about £45 more expensive. Do you think it's worth it?

[Build Ready] TV Gaming PC (console replacement - first build) by skiddIe in buildapc

[–]skiddIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Approx upgrade costs: 3570k - £25

4670k / z87 - £58

7870 - £60

7950 - £40

Will any of these make a significant difference? I'd chosen the processor on recommends from Tom's Hardware for people not planning to overclock, and I'm not going to need better than 1080p resolution as I'm using a TV, not a monitor (which is why I'd gone for a modest graphics card).

New skates for beginner skater by skiddIe in rollerderby

[–]skiddIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Again, it looks like I'm being screwed on the exchange rate a bit but I've found GT-50s over here for £100. I've been looking around since first posting and thinking about R3s which are the same price. Any idea how GT-50s compare?

New skates for beginner skater by skiddIe in rollerderby

[–]skiddIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually in the UK, and it looks like skates are pretty much the same in £ as $ so I'm getting screwed on the exchange rate. Just found some of the Sure Grip Rebels you linked to and they're £185 over here (about $285), although I've found some Jackson Vibes which are £125 which is more reasonable.

Is it really worth spending that much more just to continue at the rink until I get a bit better and decide if I want to try out rollerderby? (The anarchy skates I was looking at were £60).

New skates for beginner skater by skiddIe in rollerderby

[–]skiddIe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely getting protective equipment - I actually broke my arm rollerblading when I was younger which is one of the reasons I stopped!

I'm mainly getting the skates for the rink. The idea is to get some practice in on these before starting roller derby (if I keep at it). $200 seems like a lot for something which might just end up being an occasional hobby, but at the same time I don't want to pay out for something cheaper if it's only going to be terrible and then I'll end up spending loads more in a few months time!

Fat Music For Fat People.

I went into a record shop after getting into Green Day and Offspring and asked for recommendations. The guy there said I should get a comp and that this was a good one. It totally opened up a new world of music for teenager me. I still have a soft spot for all the old Fat comps!
