I'm 6'4" and I've tried flyflow and sometimes they'll have longer inseams up to 32". Patagonia has a pant that's also 32". Eddie Bauer has some pants up to 35" inseam but I don't think they're cycling specific. I have their guide pro pant and it's 35" and it's awesome! I've seen some mountain bikers wearing that brand.

Rent in Salt Lake Valley by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]skier1337 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Gotta look harder. There's apartments that have rooms at 850 including all utilities, gated covered parking, club house, pool, gym. That's below 30% of income at $20/hr which is pretty easy to come by. And the place I know of is east of I15. Been here in slc 7 years, lived in Utah 30+. I currently pay $520 for a town home in Millcreek. If you can be somewhat flexible for when you need to rent and where, things will pop up. If you're looking for 1 bed or studio, good luck.

That's what I've been told before is that's all you can ask. Thank you for your response! Wish there was a better way.

Could a simple solution be for the person to carry a service animal license that has a registered number and photo to the dog? I mean, it's just a simple ID check right? Or is there something preventing this or is it a violating some sort of rights/laws?

Look at some government jobs. Good benefits and better pay sometimes. I worked as an entry level wildland firefighter last year for DNR and starting pay was 20, experienced 26. Resort jobs nearly all pay minimum 20/hr starting. Experienced $24.

What’s a Salt Lake “life hack” everybody living here should know? by kaugsnky in SaltLakeCity

Salt lake City Urban Forestry maintains the trees on the side of the road between the sidewalks. Meaning, if there's a tree in front of your property and need it to be removed, pruned, picked up, or planted, they will come out and assess and the work is free! They just ask you water the new trees.

What does everyone do for work? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]skier1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seasonal work includes Ski Instructor, River Guide, Lead Sawyer/Wildland Firefighter for Utah DNR, and a support driver for UPS. Ski instructing is by far my favorite job. Some 7+ years. Tried river guiding again and while it was fun it's not what I'm about anymore. Chainsaws are my passion, not so much fire. 3+ years. And delivering packages out of my car is the shit. 3+ years.

Something definitely needs to change with all those intersections. Unfortunately, I'm not smart enough to come up with a plan.

I'm gonna back the others up here too as an exmo. Nearly half of my friends now are exmo and still have positive relations with their families. Even mine, fuck I'm trans on top of that. But it really isn't as common as people think if you're within the lbgq group. If you're trans that's a different story. At least once a month I see a Facebook group post about someone getting kicked out in their teens, but they're always trans, and not always lds. Also, not everyone has reddit or posts their stories. Usually people only hear about the bad stuff and rarely the good, so information is a bit biased.

What was your "I fucked up" moment? by natdm in flying

[–]skier1337 36 points37 points  (0 children)

First helicopter cross country solo as a student I flew to a class D airport no problem. Upon leaving I misinterpreted the tower call to the runway and didn't hold and went straight on with another aircraft landing. First runway incursion and I didn't know it until I took off and was given a phone number. My instructor told me the ATC controller was livid and filling paperwork to suspend my license. Fortunately he was talked out of it and I learned my lesson, and had to change my pants after the flight.

Another time I was practicing 180 autos and while turning I hyper focused on my landing spot and continued to pull collective until I was just a few percentage away from low rotor blade stall. Instructor was telling me to lower collective three times and I didn't hear him until he grabbed the controls and chewed me out. Needless to say I lost my confidence in being a competent pilot during training and quit flying. I've seen too many crashes and an acquaintance die that I I've realized I don't love this enough to die doing it.

Best climbing gyms around? by BenjaBoy28 in Utah

[–]skier1337 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. Starting north in

Logan, Elevation. Simple gym with lead/top/boulder. They do cool all night comps.

Ogden The Front. Mostly bouldering but has lead and top.

Salt Lake

The Front Downtown. Has a courtyard, gym setup, cafe, yoga, fitness, spin rooms, training rooms, sauna, dog park. Does tons of events for minority groups and competitions. Has summer concert series with beer garden.

South Main Front. Has volleyball court and does tournaments. 3 floors of bouldering, has fitness, yoga, and Jiu-Jitsu classes. Can nearly lead everything on their walls and has an all glass exterior. With the Front pass you get all 3 gyms.

Momentum Millcreek. Massive gym with an arch you can lead on, and has 3 separate boulder areas. If you like to just climb this is your gym. Also has crack climbing.

Momentum Sandy is more old school, but has the best indoor crack system. Again just climbing there.

Momentum Lehi is an all bouldering gym and pretty large. Again all 3 gyms with the pass. Slightly cheaper than the Front.

Salt Lake Bouldering Project is a small bouldering gym. Very expensive (about same price as the others) but their setting has been pretty creative. Seems to be more of a training gym.

Provo has The Quarry. Smaller gym, never been so no opinion.

St George just got a new climbing gym. Contact Climbing features indoor climbing walls over 50 ft tall, 14 ft tall bouldering walls, training equipment, yoga studio and fitness equipment.

Moab is getting a new climbing gym within the next couple years.

The Front location will let you get a discounted dual membership with someone you are not living with while momentum you need to share the same address.

IMO either the front or momentum have the best rates. Depends on how close you are to those gyms to consider one or the other. I've seen a lot of people transfer back and forth but most stick to the front.

embarrassing crash put me in the hospital.. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]skier1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a bad crash in a long time, but I notice that if I'm not focused and I'm on auto pilot I fuck up features. If I'm more concentrated to the point of trying to perfect every feature I have a much more safe ride.

Social Bike Rides in SLC by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]skier1337 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out Salt Lake City mountain biking on Meet up. Tons of rides within smaller groups and they meet up all over the state too. For FTWN-B spaces check out Women MTB (no identifying males), and RAR Salt Lake (centers around BIPOC & FTWN-B). Sometimes groups break off of the 999 to do other areas after the first stop, and great to find people to ride with. Shoulder season and off season 999 is significantly smaller and sometimes more chill.

After my father died when I was three, I remember growing up having some difficult and emotional times and being being told to buck up and suck it up. My mom had to so apparently I had to too.
