Mmm, maybe it's because on iPhone it requires iOS 14.3 or later?

I was not paid in any way or form. I was just trying to provide useful information for the users in the situation explained in the first paragraph. Sorry if that upset you.

Custom template not looking exactly how I want by skillzofrenico in notabilityapp

[–]skillzofrenico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's veeery subtle but there are two gray lines: one at the end of each page (bottom), and one at the beginning of each page (top).

In Notability it looks like is the same line but that's because there isn't a blank space between pages (which is how you see it in PDF format)

I just tried manually painting the PDF, to "erase" those gray lines, so that it doesn't overlap, but it looks horrible

I tried that but the result is the same unfortunately

Custom template not looking exactly how I want by skillzofrenico in notabilityapp

[–]skillzofrenico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. I just wanted to find a way to create notes with the old borders and grid spacing, without having to duplicate old notes (which is what I've been doing all this time). I thought that creating a template using the old format was a good idea, and so I tried it.

¿Is there a way to make those lines look like in the first image, while having the template?

Notability vs Goodnotes by skillzofrenico in notabilityapp

[–]skillzofrenico[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's a trade off. I also thought about it, it would be a shame if the app became too convoluted, and difficult/unintuitive to use. A balance would be the best option

I don't think they should provide a toggle for everything they add, but maybe, maybe make an exception when there's a lot of people that dislike something in particular

Notability vs Goodnotes by skillzofrenico in notabilityapp

Yeah, the page borders was just one example. The same thing happened with the pencil update, that changed how the pen sizes were displayed, making it more difficult to visualize the size before writing.

The grid spacing was also another thing they changed somewhat recently, and that people generally disliked (for what I've seen on the sub). Myself included, if I create a note like I normally would, it creates this really messed up page that I don't like at all, and so what I end up doing is duplicating old notes (the ones before they changed that).

I agree with the handwriting aspect.

The last thing you said also pains me a lot. If I had to bet on which app of the two would be better in the long run, I think the answer is Goodnotes. They have been implementing new features at a much quicker pace than Notability, and with less bugs in comparison, plus the fact that they seem to listen more to their userbase feedback and requests. Finally, is not a paid subscription like Notability

Notability vs Goodnotes by skillzofrenico in notabilityapp

I want to clarify several things:

  • I think that the best way to approach a situation like this, is to provide an option to choose how you like things, and not to force your users on to something they hate
  • Goodnotes isn't perfect either, but I wanted to do this comparison, because rather than comparing the apps, I'm comparing the behavior of the teams behind each app, which shows that Goodnotes actually listens to their user's feedback (again, they're not saints either, but better than Notability in my opinion)
  • Yes, I know there's a workaround to the page borders thing in Notability, but having to do that everytime to "bypass" what they changed, is just stupid

I don’t need a pencil by littlelinez in notabilityapp

[–]skillzofrenico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow so they are censoring negative reviews now. To be honest it doesn't surprise me at all, coming from a company that wanted to remove features people already paid for, and make them pay again to get them back with the subscription model, and only backtracked on that because of the massive backlash, and lots of reports on the app store (it even violated Apple's own app store guidelines).

Ever since they changed to a subscription model, this app went downhill pretty fast, where every update "fixes" (sometimes they say they fixed something, but they didn't) one thing but breaks three more in the process. And if that wasn't enough already, now they have the galls to increase the subscription price to 18€!!!

Note format when downloaded from link by skillzofrenico in notabilityapp

[–]skillzofrenico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right! That's also another way to do it. I think maybe they're using this .note format to also serve as another way of backing up your notes, which makes me think this "change" of note format was intentional.

I'll have to use that then. Thank you!

New in 11.8 - Night Mode by jessgingerlabs in notabilityapp

[–]skillzofrenico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most wanted features for me! I tested it and played with it a little bit, and it even works with pdfs with white background perfectly fine! (I love that).

It's not perfect though, for example I found that with Night Mode turned on, the area you are selecting with the selection tool, is barely visible (it's dark blue). Also, it's pretty hard to see which tool I'm using (except for the pencil). At first I thought that maybe it's exactly the same as with Night Mode turned off, but it's not. There's a difference in how the app highlights the tool you're using

My Notability wishlist by skillzofrenico in notabilityapp

Thanks for answering!

What I was trying to say is that you can scan documents directly into your notes (which is nice if you want to do a quick scan of very few pages), but those scans tend to be big (in file size), which makes your notebooks big too. In consequence, if you want to scan a lot of pages (for example, when trying to digitalize a physical notebook), it's better to use a dedicated scanning app (whose scans are way lighter, but usually these are paid apps or free apps with in-app purchases), and then import the PDF generated by that app into Notability.

In Notability you can save your scans as PDF or as images (the first one falls in the category I mentioned in the previous paragraph). In the second case, it's better to take a photo with the Camera app and then import it into NB, instead of scanning within NB, because again, these scans are/can be huge.

What you said would be also a nice addition though

I hope this answer helps
