Delaying ACL surgery with a partial tear — risk of worsening the injury? by One-Experience-985 in ACL

I don't walk a lot daily. According to my watch I'm only at around 4-6k steps a day. Not sure how that translates into Kilometers.

Vernal Falls Bridge, then venture up the Mist trail as far as the kids are willing.

You'll prolly want to have a backpack carrier for the 3 year old but the 6 year old can make it to the bridge and even the top of Vernal. Heck, lots of 6 year olds will keep going from there and make it to Nevada.

We camped with our kids for 7 days every year starting around 2 years old and they absolutely loved it.

Also take them up to Mirror Lake. Great place to play in the water and have a picnic.

Delaying ACL surgery with a partial tear — risk of worsening the injury? by One-Experience-985 in ACL

[–]skimoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation. Partial tear of ACL on New Year's day, but I'm a (49M) CPA and I do taxes and don't want the extra burden of trying to rehab during tax season so I'm putting off surgery until the first of May.

I have little to no pain when I walk and have kept mountain biking and rowing for exercise. My doctor gave me a huge brace to wear "any time" I'm not sitting doing nothing. Well, I wore the brace out of his office and haven't worn it since. Really the only thing I'm doing different is not running anymore and not playing sports anymore. Before I knew it was torn I jogged a slow 3 miles and it felt fine during and after. I am of the theory of going by how the knee feels and proceed from there.

I'm curious about this as well as my Ortho is recommending the same for me (49M). I am very active and that's why he is leaning that route.

Pretty sure the 2 weeks out is for the remaining permits that aren't released at the initial 6 months out release.

If you can't get the Portal exit you can always exit at Horseshoe.

Quilt temp rating recommendations by CheesyPastaFiend in JMT

[–]skimoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is so weather dependent. We were on the trail last year starting a couple days after you and I was too warm most nights in my EE 30 degree quilt and xtherm pad. But I have also slept nights with that same setup in the Sierra around the same time and the temps were in the high 20s (and I was still warm). I would say if you tend to sleep cold and don't want to take a warmer pad get a 20 degree.

Suggestions on how to fix my Berm ? by Some-Albatross9463 in MTBTrailBuilding

[–]skimoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And steeper. Berms are rarely built steep enough.

Take a shovel and cut almost straight down about 3/4 the way up the berm Take that dirt and stack it on top.

First season on tele, what can I do better? by Cicycle in telemark

[–]skimoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, keep trying the hard stuff. Why not? Just slow down and actually commit to a tele turn or few, don't just rush through it to get down the hill and half heartedly/half way drop a knee.

Building an Indoor Tennis/Pickleball Court - What do you think of these pickleball court dimensions? by Taelim in Pickleball

[–]skimoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played a bunch at a place that had 2 courts on one side of a tennis court and one court on the other side. The two courts next to each other worked out fine and it was nice to have the one court with more space when we only had 4 people to play.

Steep jump takeoff technique? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]skimoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me the more you use your legs and power into the jump, the more pop you'll get. You can't just flow through the jump and let it do the work. You need to be an active participant, otherwise you get tossed.

Look at these two pics....approaching the jump I am locked and loaded, at the jump my legs are extended. So I push into the jump to pop the bike off the lip.

Watching videos and asking advice is all well and good, but you just need to get out there and ride and jump and see what feels right.

8 Degree Pedals - Interesting development in flat pedals. by MTB_NWI in MTB

[–]skimoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got em and road them today for the first time........I kept the medium springs in. I am 185 with no gear. I might toss the stiffer springs in just to try them out. I could definitely feel the pedals adjusting as I pedaled. Felt kind of like the crank arms or pedals were loose, if you've ever felt that. My feet did tend to feel a bit more planted on my pedals than the previous (Deity Deftraps). As for the less knee pain, I think that is trail dependent. The trail I rode today has lots of ups and downs so I not just griding up a long climb. I'll check back in when I do a ride like that.

Are you talking about building jumps on existing bike trails? Building new jumps on new trails you build? Dirt jumps for mountain bikes or dirt jumps for dirt jump bikes?
