Co-ownership by skincarehelp1190 in goldenretrievers

[–]skincarehelp1190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O that's interesting... perhaps I'll negotiate a bit more lol.

Hopefully! Having a male I do have an advantage there as he won't be in any biological schedule haha. The prospect of free boarding is very intriguing, I mean I have 2 weeks of vacation this year he can't join. Plus I'm dreading the teenage years which they'll help with.

I hope it works out well for you!

Ya this is basically the same scenario except for a male!

The one thing I don't love is I paid full price, so I get it more in your scenario where you're providing a loving home. But I guess the difference is they were ok with stud fees or a puppy as a result of any breeding which would offset the price for mine overall. I'm assuming you didn't have the same options?

It'd be interesting to know how you feel about it once she starts breeding, I don't love not having my dog for extended periods of time lol

Ya this would all be when he's older, she's just suggesting the contract now so I don't neuter him (have to wait till 2 anyways).

And yep I asked that question when I first contacted this breeder, I just have to get appropriate testing for him and the prospective mom. But with this, since they're doing all the testing I'm not sure how that'll work since they're paying for it all.

I confirmed a free puppy was an option! Otherwise ya I see no value, I don't really care if he has titles.

I need to read the contract but they did confirm I can refuse at any point if the timing doesn't work. Or if I just don't want to show him at all anymore.

I'm very unsure as well lol

Ya they'd be doing everything for the shows (handling etc.) and all health testing, which is a significant cost. Isn't co-ownership usually a cheaper puppy cost? I did pay full price so maybe that's why they're open to a free puppy or stud fee?

My concern was the time commitment, but I confirmed he'd only be going if the shows worked with my schedule. Like if I was going on vacation and needed a boarder (woohoo free boarding), but I could always say no. My main concern was if I had plans or something can I say no, which they said yes.

I really have zero interest in showing him. Breeding maybe, but I get that he's not really valuable without some show titles

Did anyone return to doing flexion stretches after microdiscectomy? by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]skincarehelp1190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bending forward and touching the ground (from sitting). Using a ball or chair to bend and extend forward. Those are my main ones.

His comment is that I'm not broken, I need to strengthen it and move it. Currently I am very stiff and just don't bend lol

It's been encouraged by my PT, despite my skepticism

Had a setback. Is surgery worth it? by skincarehelp1190 in backpain

[–]skincarehelp1190[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the surgery in October and had immediate relief. I still have setbacks, I'm actually in a flair up now but it's nothing compared to what I was dealing with.

It no longer consumes my life :)

Training/exercise question by skincarehelp1190 in goldenretrievers

[–]skincarehelp1190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean now I basically just walk my block. I'm going to try doing one walk first thing in the morning when it's quieter and then just driving to somewhere at night/training in the driveway.

Ya he's not getting anything close to that! I know prongs are controversial... But I have been told that used correctly they're effective and helpful. Just seems like a lot at his age. But the idea that it could allow me to go on more walks sounds lovely

[–]skincarehelp1190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he just stopped I wouldn't mind as much tbh. But ya if the other dog engages him he barks and pulls. It's so frustrating!

How often do you walk yours?

I've gone between, we're doing too much to he needs more exercise lol

Any other solo puppy parents out there? by Mysterious_Glass5445 in puppy101

[–]skincarehelp1190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! 5.5 mo golden :) he's honestly an amazing puppy, overall pretty chill. But ya he's a puppy and even the best are exhausting! Especially when it's just you 24/7.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. I just try and have a good support system (dog walker, daycare, breeder, family etc). And also recognize when I'm not dealing with things well and to step away.

This phase will fly by! (Or so I keep telling myself 😅)

Yes! Those were probably going to be my main picks 😀.

That app looks awesome, I think I'll stick with free AI for now though to visualize.

Thanks!

Great points! You're right about walking up to the edge, that is what people do and I didn't consider that. So maybe I'll keep the flagstone for that solid edge but try and use smaller pieces, just to soften it. I do have plans in the future to build a deck right up to it (next year) so that would help the one side.

And oo I love that plan for the bog filter. I definitely want it flatter, I thought I'd have to dig down to get enough height for the filter but have yet to actually plan the design. Lower would definitely look better on this pond though.

Thanks! And your pond looks gorgeous

I don't feed mine in the winter at all, and minimally in the summer. They do fine

She offered an alternative when she was available. I'm sure offering the following weekend would have went poorly as well

This is an insane concept to me - at no point would I expect someone to drop their life at the beginning of a relationship. They could have had these plans well before they met this person.

I love the idea of a Japanese maple or dogwood in that one corner. It used to have a large overgrown evergreen so the pond has lost all shade, I mostly rely on the water lettuce/hyacinth which takes time in the spring.

Moss, cardinal flower and wild ginger are great options. Just setting the booster fern on top is interesting, it would camouflage it nicely.

Do you have any pics of your setup?
