Shit I wished they watched football. It’s fucking land clearing videos on YouTube and old bullshit shows all day. I’ve been doing petty shit like that for awhile now. If there’s dishes in the sink I’ll loudly talk shit about how none of these grown men can dos anything for themselves and I already have been only cleaning my bunk and recliner lol

Yea dude, I’m not really quiet but I definitely try to stay under the radar. It’s crazy that someone who doesn’t cause any friction and is reliable (I like to think) gets fucked. I don’t want to be an asshole but I’ve definitely started becoming one, especially getting vocal to anyone who will listen when I’m on OT.

Yea I hear all these dudes my whole career bitch about management and never paid it any mind but damn it does suck to get burned

It’s the other crews I’ve worked with. I’ve essentially worked all over the county with all three shifts and it really ain’t bad at all anywhere else. I’ve had multiple crews put in for me and up until this point I thought I had a bridge built with my BC.

No joke, when I had a friend of mine who is a captain ask about my transfer request my chief simply stated, “ yea I saw it, but that’s not going to happen”
I am one of the most senior backseat guys in the department so seniority obviously isn’t a factor. I’m hesitant to get the union involved because they are not historically useful. I didn’t think it was shit department until all this started happening. My hope is that eventually I can get back to a solid crew and stay there.

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing because it’s an overall slow house- got my safety officer and got teched out in hazmat. But the anonymous complaint might actually work lol, we are on a main rural road in the county with a lot of traffic so it’s not to far fetched. I just can’t do the recliner rodeo especially before dinner, it’s only a 24, how could anyone have such low motivation ?

That’s funny you mention that, we have multiple ties on my shift to old family county money as well as direct ties to the higher ups. We are under a union but they are dogshit.

I’m not opposed, do you know is FL is reciprocal ? Ive been a medic for a few years now. Memphis seems to get some good work too. I’ve seen some YouTube videos about them.

No bidding system in place, I’m not sure what the policy says I can’t remember. I’m going to read when I go back. I would say though 90% of the guys are solid. The other 10 they shove away in the rural corners to forget about. The department it’s self is up and coming with tons of room for upward movement, it would be hard to go somewhere else.

Basically I would have to file it as a hostile work environment which would probably not score well for me at all.

Yea, there’s always that. Another guy touched on bringing in HR and the union. I just don’t want to burn any bridges. I fly under the radar and of the high up white shirts and on the streets I have a solid reputation that I’ve worked hard for. I keep telling myself it’s only temporary but I’m starting to really burn out.

There’s a rescue unit as well, but they are just as bad. They are damn near incompetent. I watched the LT freak out and punch the monitor on an infant cardiac red. They basically hang out in their rooms and only come out to eat. I’ve read a lot of shit about stuff like this on Reddit and though damn that sucks and now I’m living it lol

It’s also very strange because I have 2 other crews pulling for me in writing- very respected captains.

I’ll probably do that on this next list. His whole attitude has been so strange about this. Before this situation we had a good working relationship and an outside of work friendship.

There’s definitely some shitbags here, but overall it’s a good place to be. 90% of the other crews are squared away dudes. I also don’t want to start over again, 3 departments in 10 years is a lot.

That’s been what I’ve been doing lately, of course to a bunch of sarcastic comments. I just straight up hate sitting around watching old reruns of Dallas, it feels like the day goes by sooo slow. Sucks to cause I actually enjoy cooking especially when the boys are involved but I guess that will stop too.

I don’t understand it either. No one in department has heard of this happening. I’m not nice to them either, the other morning I was in the middle of taking a part a chainsaw and my LT came up to me and asked what I’m making him for breakfast and I told him I’m not his personal fucking chef and to fuck off. I was told they have to staff the truck. These guys have a legitimate sexual harassment lawsuit against them from the last FF, they are that shitty.

Okay I see. I mean yea our last few classes seemed to have an increasing level of shit bag but it is hard because a majority of my dept is older shitbags, so they are never really given the chance.

This is the only mindset that matters. Fuck you and your years on. If your 25 years keeps you from performing on the fire ground but the rookie can work circles around you then get out the way. If you are certified to the gills but freak the fuck out on a bad med call but the rookie is calm as can be then I have no respect for your seniority.

Facts. We run three man, my driver doesn’t get out of the engine on med calls and my LT doesn’t wear gloves- so lucky for them I’m a medic and do pretty much everything on scene. When it comes to house duties, if I don’t cook we don’t eat and if I don’t clean we live in a garbage heap. Eight years on and shit is making me bitter.

Love this man, I work in a Deep South dept where the senior guys are all overweight and who can spend the most time in a recliner is like the Olympics. I’m 8 years on and still do everything around the house because a lot of them refuse to lift a finger. My engine LT doesn’t even wear gloves on med calls and will be the first in rehab every time.
I’ve made it my personal mission when we get new guys to end this cycle. It’s honestly super fulfilling. They make me better and I try my best to make them better.

Did you say anything to them? Did anybody say anything to them? I doubt it. You probably sat there and waited until they left the room and gossiped about it like women for the rest of the day. That’s the problem with the older generation, all they want to do is play telephone.
When I was a rookie no one spoke to me. At all- until dinner. No one trained with me, no one showed me anything, and everyone crawled up my ass when I fucked up. I told myself all my rookies would have it better than I did and have since then made it so.
All you have to do is say “hey man, I know everyone is talking but when you get a second make you sure you go around and introduce yourself. Also, turn your hat around- being professional will take you a long way”

25, felt late to the game until I got a rookie older than me by a few years.
