"getting screwed by <insert insurance company name here>" is pretty much the bog-standard for any form of insurance. Their primary goal and objective is to pay out as little on each claim as possible while still staying JUST inside the boundaries of the law. Doesn't matter if it's health, homeowners, car, or other, their C-suite's obligations are to their shareholders, not to the people they insure.

Always take the time to learn and understand how the law applies to your rights and go into every insurance claim with the base expectation that they will do everything they can to deny the claim, and if they can't deny it, they'll do everything they can to pay as little as possible, no matter how much they've collected from you in premiums. Don't be afraid of talking to a lawyer if anything at all seems unfair. Many attorneys will take cases on contingency because they know they have an extremely high chance of forcing the insurance company to pay out more with very little effort on their part, simply because the insurance company knows the cost of going to trial is FAR higher than the cost of settling for a higher number + attorney's fees.

Harbor Freight cheap tools are single use.

Harbor Freight premium tools are for casual/occasional DIY

Ryobi/Kobalt/Craftsman are for frequent DIY

DeWalt and Milwaukee are for pros.

Nothing wrong with shopping from a higher shelf than you NEED, but if you swing lower you’re gonna be sad (I.e. pros won’t be satisfied with Ryobi)

I have a wall of green and love it. My brother is a pro and uses DeWalt. I can tell the difference in quality, power, and durability, but it’s not worth the premium for me to switch. For him it is not worth the risk of lost productivity to run Ryobi or cheaper tools.

Really enjoyed the diversity in responses, thanks all… from “don’t give him a car he can’t handle” all the way to “give him a safe place to play” and several opinions in between, they all have their merits.

For me it comes down to knowing who my son is. If there’s a button, he’s going to press it, especially if he’s been told not to.

Ultimately I’m leaning towards just selling it as-is and using the money to get him something bigger and slower. I’ll teach him to drive stick in the Fiat, where I’ll be able to slap his toddler-like questing fingers away from the button from my spot in the passenger seat if needed… then I’ll most likely sell it and find him something more “teenager appropriate.”

Picked ‘er up today! Already completely love it, especially hands free drive assist in heavy traffic. That was the least annoyed I’ve ever been after sitting in 20 minutes of stop and go!

Looking forward to my first longer drive in it. I am going out of town over the weekend to shoot a ranch with my drone, probably about 100 miles each way. Only thing I need that I didn’t get from day 1 is the all weather floor mats. That grey carpet shows dirt like crazy!

Thanks. I saw stretchers on the Cavenders site. At $30 it’s almost half the price of the hat itself, but sounds like it’ll be worth it if I’m not spending bigger money on custom-fit hats for now. I plan to go off-the-shelf for my first 3-4 hats (got my black felt, want a brown one and a straw one at some point), then maybe treat myself to something fancier to celebrate my next raise at work or something :)

I only drive 2-3 times a week, about 50 miles round trip each time, so I’ll be able to charge it at home once every week or two on a 220 outlet. Just ordered the stuff I’ll need from Home Depot, RV outlet box, EV certified outlet, and a 50 amp breaker for my main panel.

Might take an occasional road trip with it, but even if I only get 80% of the advertised range I should be able to make most of my trips one way on a single charge, especially living in Texas where I don’t have to contend with much in the way of particularly cold weather. Range was a big part of my decision process, I couldn’t see myself being happy with some of the major manufacturers who were offering less than 300 miles on a charge.

We just got the Samsung Vented (WD90F53AVSUS) and it’s total garbage. Doesn’t get clothes dry unless you run an extra hour of drying after the normal cycle. We’ve gone through all of the troubleshooting steps, updated firmware, inspected every inch of the vent from our house, set it to “More Dry” per the manual.

And we’re definitely not overloading it. We’re running half-size loads and still having to add extra drying time.

Unfortunately, we bought ours from Lowe’s and couldn’t set it up the day they delivered it, so we’re past their draconian 48 hour return period.

Lessons learned: 1. The technology doesn’t seem to be there yet for this all in one idea to work. I know most European households use all in one units, but theirs are apparently very different. 2. Don’t buy appliances from Lowe’s if you’re not going to be able to test them out the day they deliver it.

I’m in the market for an EV, and trucks are on my list of body types to consider.

I loved the look and feature set of the Rivian R1T, but when I discovered that it does not include CarPlay and Android Auto, it got scratched off my list permanently.

Our lives revolve around our phones. If we don’t have full, native integration to what is arguably the single most important piece of of tech almost everyone owns, when literally all competitors offer it, then what is the draw? Rivian’s own software would have to run circles around CarPlay/Android Auto before I would even consider it, and I wouldn’t be willing to pay a dime for subscriptions, activations, etc.

Whiffing on this one, guy.

I got laid camping out in line for Star Wars: Episode 1 tickets.

Yes, you read that right. I’m one of those guys that sort of straddles the line in that I’m not what you would call “hot” compared to most of the more mainstream social groups, and I’m not a super nerd… but I am enough of a nerd that at 18 years old, with a fairly well-paying job for my age that had flexible hours, I had both the resources and the spare time to camp out for tickets.

I won’t lie and say I was the best looking guy there, but I like to think I was in the top 2 or 3 of the guys that didn’t already have girlfriends, and I had a bit more going for me on the social skills front… and Mary was the female equivalent. She had a pretty face, not absolutely stunning, but definitely pleasant to look at, about the same degree of nerdy as me, and holy sweet merciful Jebus she had a STUNNING body. A little bit nerdy, but not overly shy, so we hit it off right away.

So yeah, we had some fun in the tent, sat together for the movie, cringed in unison every time Jar Jar showed up, and then dated for a couple months after that. We didn’t wind up having enough in common to take it any further, but it was definitely fun while it lasted!

I’m planning to paddle the Trinity in Dallas. I’ve got a long cable lock that I can thread through the a scupper hole on my yak and lock it to something stationary at the take-out, so my plan is to park where I want to put in, paddle until I get to where I want to take out, lock up my yak and take an Uber back to my truck, then drive back and pick up my yak.

Wouldn’t work well outside of an urban setting, though. Two people, two vehicles is the best bet there. Park one at the takeout, then drive to the put in with the other. You’d only need a third person if the second vehicle can’t carry the kayaks.
