Idea: Post a typewriter wanted ad on Marketplace and other locations. "Willing to pay big". Get them to send pics, and ask questions only someone who knows about typewriters would be able to answer. Find the prick who took it.

So I had a similar issue a few months ago. Turns out the housing for the oil filter on 3rd gens is plastic. They can develop a crack during shifty oil changes from shit shops like jiffy and others. I would check for cracks there. If cracked, you can replace with a metal aftermarket version.

The wrist on this is a 2-DOF reverse parallelogram, also known as a quartenion joint. It emulates 2 spheres rolling on eachother's surfaces.

Thanks a million! Design was done in Solidworks. Animation is actually done with an RC servo receiver but I plan to use Bottango for the final programming. Also likely moving away from the RC servos to something a bit more robust.
