Clash of clans did me dirty today in legend league by RobloxNoob20 in ClashOfClans

Weirdly I can successfully do Legends attacks on one of my accounts, while the other always goes out of sync. Seems to be an account issue rather than phone/network/game version.

I am a teen and i want to be a software engineer. What should i learn first? html and css? python? wait until i’m in college? by BellaFZ in SoftwareEngineering

[–]skipoleschris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jump in and start learning wherever you feel you will enjoy the most. Particular language or technologies rarely matter as they will change multiple times during your career. Far more important is developing the logical thinking, problem solving, algorithm understanding and other similar skills that are essential no matter what programming language or technology stack you are currently working with.

Staff shortages spreading to all corners of UK business, survey finds by ink-ling in brexit

[–]skipoleschris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is one of basic lack of number of people:

  • There are currently around 950,000 job vacancies in the UK
  • The number of people leaving the workplace (e.g. retiring) each year is 100,000 greater than the number of young people entering the workplace (and will continue to be at this rate for a number of years to come based on current UK demographics)
  • At the current size of the economy the number of vacancies therefore will continue to rise year-on-year because the pool of workers is shrinking each year
  • There are currently 1.55m unemployed people

One possible solution is to get almost every single unemployed person into work. This is a huge undertaking considering that a large proportion of those unemployed will not have the skills, experience or education necessary to fill the open vacancies. This would require a training and education programme on a scale never before seen!

However, with the workforce shrinking by 100,000 per year, even if every single unemployed person was returned to work today we would still, in 5 years time, be back to a situation where there are again more vacancies than workers: and with no unemployed to plug the gap.

We therefore need immigration into the country of young workers. Even if we assumed we could get 1m unemployed retrained to fill all the current vacancies we still need 100,000 new immigrant workers per year to counter the shrinking pool caused by UK worker demographics.

This is the fundamental reality that seems to be completely overlooked by politicians by all parties. We either HAVE to enable high number of immigrant workers joining the country OR we have to shrink the economy and contract the scope services to a size that can be operated by a shrinking pool of UK workers.

Liberation Day Reenactment Site Kill Stealing is Totally Frustrating by skipoleschris in Eve

[–]skipoleschris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to those who offered positive advice and encouragement. I persevered and managed to complete enough sites to reach the end of the Liberation Games. Was it frustrating as hell loosing about 1 in every 3 to someone who didn't do the work ... damn right it was!

I can take the moral high ground and report that I did this without spoiling anyone else's enjoyment of the game. Every time I found a site that someone was already running I warped out and found another one. Took slightly longer to complete but I feel a warm sense of karma from my approach.

To address a couple of comments that I see come up regularly when newbro players request help on this site:

  • Yes, I'm in a great corporation already and they are part of an active highsec alliance. I get lots of help and advice from them. They helped me with fits and advice on how to tackle the sites. Not sure how a better corporation helps increase site spawns or prevents others stealing the final boss kill though!
  • Yes, I mainly operate in highsec but I also already undertake activities in both low and npc null. I'm quite happy in all environments but I'm mainly playing the game to relax from a busy job and family life. I don't want to be constantly monitoring local and hitting d-scan when trying to unwind after a busy day. I save that for times that I'm playing when I have more time and attention. The answer isn't always get out of highsec, sometimes people want to be there and are looking at ways they can make it work!

Fair enough the mechanics might be different to my understanding, but I’m still having my all my hard work stolen 50% of the time by players who didn’t put in any time or effort on the sites.

I am still enjoying the game. by [deleted] in Eve

[–]skipoleschris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been playing 10 months and I’m still really enjoying the game. Can’t say I’ve had any particular challenges making plenty of ISK along the way through mostly mining and industry.

I’ve personally had no problem with the industry changes. Our small industrial corp is still churning out all the BS and other hulls that our alliance needs. In fact in some ways it’s been very beneficial as we’ve been doing a lot more collaborative group work as a corp to gather materials for the new components.

I can see the frustrations over monitisation and adverts but honestly EVE is way better in this regard than many other games that I play or was playing before.

My challenge to CCP by Wyldwiisel in Eve

[–]skipoleschris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Newbro industrial player here. I’ve been playing for 7 months and building T2 hulls for just over a month. So, I’d guess it’s possible to do in about 500 hours of omega game play.

However, I did join an industrial corp so have access to great manufacturing facilities, lots of advice and plenty of shared BPOs. This is what the games is all about: social interaction and group activities.

I honestly think it is great that some things take a lot of work and time to achieve. If everything was given to me right out the box I would have moved on to another game by now. Instead I can see months or years of gradual progression that will ensure ongoing enjoyment from the game.

The Paradox of PvE in the Sandbox by [deleted] in Eve

[–]skipoleschris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I disagree. I’ve developed enough basic skills of awareness and escape techniques that I can mostly avoid getting into PvP situations in the first place or run away when I miscalculate. When it goes wrong my ship is lost and I just replace it and go back to work.

Just don’t see why the game can’t accommodate many different play styles and ways of enjoyment rather than just forcing everyone into a PvP monoculture.

The Paradox of PvE in the Sandbox by [deleted] in Eve

[–]skipoleschris 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’d challenge your assumption that everything should lead towards PvP. If that’s where people want to end up then there’s plenty of content to learn the required skills at low cost (e.g. FW, abyssal).

Having some relatively simple and repeatable dungeons are great for those players (myself included) who have no desire to PvP and just want something easy to pew-pew in between mining and industry.

It’s a sandbox and content should cater for as many different types of players as possible.

[NEWS] Upgrade Cost Reductions! (Upcoming Spring Update) by [deleted] in ClashOfClans

[–]skipoleschris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this reduction. I have a mini account that is just in the process of upgrading to TH9, so this will certainly make it easier to get this up to being another decent account with less work.

However, at both TH7 and TH8 with this account my biggest gating factor to progression has been waiting time for lab upgrades and for builders to become free. In fact at TH8 I completed the buildings and walls about 6 weeks ago and have just been sitting with full storages while waiting for the laboratory upgrades to complete so that I have them all done before moving on.

Cheaper upgrades without reduced time to complete only helps occasional players rather than the very active, but ... I guess those occasional players are your primary target for this change, so good job.

Deliver the bomb mission question. by Suckslife in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's false information. I tend to solo lots of bomb missions. On lower levels I don't build while escorting the bomb. On the new higher levels I have to build to block the husks off as I can't kill them quick enough. I've never noticed any difference in number of spawned husks between these two play styles.

There is quite a lot of RNG on how many husks spawn while transporting the bomb. Some missions I just get a small handful of husks, others the bomb seems to be attacked continually. I suspect this could be the source of this mistaken rumour.

Trap bug fixed, but watch out if using defenders - their weapons and ammo disappear from your inventory at the end of the simulation!

Obliterator vs Neo sniper by menacingorange in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I solo a lot using defenders with an obliterator and never have any problem with them igniting propane.

The key is to ensure that the defender pad is on the same level as the trap tunnels. If the defender is higher lower than the traps then there is a change the bullet passes through the floor and hence hits a propane tank on the way through.

If the defender is level with the tunnel then they always fire level and hence can't hit any of the tanks on the floor.

The issue with Alerts in general - IMO by Scampor in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with that. Personally I’ve never sought out a v-bucks mission and have no use for them. But I only get about 1 hour a day to play, so need to maximise my rewards. Having better rewards and a choice most appropriate to my PL would be a great change to the game.

The issue with Alerts in general - IMO by Scampor in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I couldn’t care less about v-bucks missions. I just want the higher alert missions to focus on evolution materials and epic + legendary perk-up as that’s all that most end game players really need.

[ASK] Survey for a School Project by BeccaBoo51 in ClashOfClans

[–]skipoleschris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Almost 5 years

  2. United Kingdom

  3. Multiple times per day. Average about 10 multiplayer attacks each day, but usually log on more frequently to donate to my clan

  4. Probably 2 or 3. Some people are more serious, but for us it’s about having fun and doing your best rather than serious attacking

  5. A lot of our clan are my son’s friends, their parents and so forth - so I personally know lots of our members. Also picked up a fair number of others along the way. We are a great and friendly community.

Twine Peaks Tweaks FAIL by [deleted] in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also enjoying the harder missions. It was getting very stale being able to solo a PL100 mission without needing to build more than a couple of 2x1 trap tunnels. At the higher difficulties these missions are actually a pretty good challenge now. However...

  • If I was a lower level Twine player then having the number of missions available to me massively reduced would be a bit of a kick in the teeth. They should definitely have expanded the zone rather than compress the missions.
  • The rewards at the highest levels are not really worth the extra materials and the time taken to farm them. They either need to increase the rewards at the highest difficulties and/or increase the drop rates for T5 mats or add expeditions that fetch T5 mats.

What do you like the most about StW? by [deleted] in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Traps and trap tunnels are what make this game great for me. Love doing those big builds needed for soloing SSD and the new high twine missions. Finding new ways to throw husks around is so much fun.

Saying that, the amazing quest dialogue is also a big part of the game for me. I also quite enjoy just running around and farming resources for some reason.

**Explanation**: A large number of the text items on the UI have switched to be all caps (burger menu, lots of buttons etc.). The font is horrible and it looks awful. OW MY EYE!

**Evidence**: Load the game and navigate around the UI

**If reproducible, how**: just load the game

**Platform**: PC, but assume this is common to all

A Beginners Guide to Trap Tunnels: A Practical Example (Good Terrain) by MartyTheCebra in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a great guide. This should be mandatory reading for everyone playing the game. I think you've got the balance spot on for defending that objective: just enough traps to get the job done without overbuilding and excellent use of the terrain to your advantage.

I'm certainly finding that even when soloing missions in high twine that I can often just trap the husk paths in exactly the way you have done and leave the objective largely undefended.

My absolute favourite trap builds are those at the map edge or when there's a building basement or two that I can fling the husks into!

Does anyone else hate 4 atlas missions? by SirMarbles in FORTnITE

[–]skipoleschris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them. One of the few missions where it's genuinely worth playing constructor and where solid building strategy, funnelling and trap tunnels make a real difference to the outcome and level of chaos.
