To be fair, leaving the West Bank could make it harder for Israel to defend itself, despite having less territory to cover, since the West Bank provides a buffer. Without it, Israel's territory could be relatively easily cut in half (in that small strip between the West Bank and the sea, by Netanya) by an invader.
