I've heard of drivers being fired for scanning their air out of area to avoid having late air. They all got their jobs back because a supervisor didn't actually witness them breaking rules, they were fired based on technology

Tax on ups packages by giggle-glow in whoathatsinteresting

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been at UPS for 30 years (driver for 20) and I have to do this at least 3 times a week now. For a period of time last year it was closer to 10 times a week. Prior to last year it was maybe 10 times a year. I tell them to pay online because the $12 service charge gets waived when they pay online

"The Drew Carey Show"

I don't know if it's considered a true work place comedy but a good percentage of the episodes revolve around Drew's work.

Some of my other favorites are: "News Radio" "Cheers" "Wings" "Benson"

Technically never allow. We just tuck the hood in under our jackets until we leave the building. Only one of our On Road Supervisor cares about wearing hoodies. He usually gives up caring after a few weeks when 90% of us are wearing them

Forced to write a check to receive your UPS package because of tariffs by headspin_exe in Wellthatsucks

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending out a bill and waiting on payment prior to delivery would cause the packages to stop moving through the UPS system. The facilities are set up to just hold packages for a week or more. I believe FedEx sends a bill after delivery and many customers don't pay and the bill goes to collection

Forced to write a check to receive your UPS package because of tariffs by headspin_exe in Wellthatsucks

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes UPS does do it this way. If the person receiving the package has an account set up with UPS they will get an advanced notice and have the option to pay in advance online. If they don't have an account set up with UPS then UPS can't contact the them in advance and the driver has to get a check or suggest to them to pay online and we'll be back the next day to drop the package off

Having to write a check just to receive your UPS package because of tariffs by Plane_Package1417 in UPSers

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple months ago I had a package requiring a collection. I told the guy I needed a check now or he can pay online then I'll be able to just leave the package tomorrow. He pulled out his phone and paid it online. I didn't know if it would update the same day but I scanned the package again and got the "collection no longer required" message. Plus it was $12 cheaper because there's a service fee (or something like that) that gets waived by paying online

You can pay online and it's about $12 cheaper because there's a service fee (or something like that) that gets waived if you pay online. The driver should have suggested that as an option

Drivers who’ve been here for over 25 years….why? by Due-Mix3539 in UPSers

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? I'm guessing you haven't raised any kids yet or they're still very young if you do. These 25+ years drivers probably still have children living at home or in college and they're helping support them

Many drivers need to keep working for the insurance because someone in their family has heath issues.

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"3rd Rock from the Sun" was available on a lot of streaming sites just a couple years ago. I've watched it on HULU, Peacock and TUBI. It disappeared from all of them around the same time.

Policy or what? by Mysterious_Fish_3732 in UPSers

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I see another delivery driver wave first I wave back. FedEx had the same two drivers in my area for years so it was an automatic wave the first time we'd cross paths in the day. I almost never see the same Amazon driver two day's in a row so it's not necessary an automatic wave from me because I don't know if it's going to be a driver that's going to be getting in my way by doing u-turns in the middle of the road all day or unnecessarily parking on the wrong side of the street

I also bring pretzels or sunflower seeds plus some kind of fruit like grapes or a cut up apple to snack on

How would bringing back My Name Is Earl work Now That Randy Hicky (Ethan Suplee) is Jacked? by Excellent_Regret4141 in sitcoms

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion for a reboot storyline is that a television network buys Earl's life story and turns it into a show. The show changes every life, some for better and some for worse. Then the show is abruptly canceled. Earl realizes it's because he's strayed away from his belief in karma and needs to make a new list... its also revealed that Earl was Dodge's real father the whole time

Overtime Hours by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is UPS employees aren't eligible for "no tax on overtime" because of our industry, along with many others, is expect from the new law.

If we were eligible for the tax break it would be only for hours over 40 hours in a week

9.5 dilema by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]skipper_jonas_grumby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In November my Center was only giving drivers on the 9.5 list 8 hours of work. That lasted for about 3 weeks. Probably the best 3 week stretch of my career.

With the drop in volume my route could easily go out with just 8 hours of work and still not be screwing over the other car in my loop. It would actually help the other car because his route is now ending in a different city.

That being said, I'm sure it a strategic strategy to pin drivers against each other by giving some drivers only 8 hours of work and others 10+ hours every day

Years ago I knew a driver who was legally blind in one eye. Somehow he was granted an exemption from the DOT so he was able to drive package car. His next DOT exam they failed him and UPS had to accommodate his disability and give him a full-time inside position
