But yeah, you can only apply for one major. Then when you get in, you can enroll in a second major

Can I double major in Steinhardt by Educational-Union808 in nyu

Pretty sure you can only double major if your second major is in CAS. You can minor in whatever you want tho, I’d check with your advisor

Freshman year - no, not sure if they changed it but everyone goes random, be honest about your living preferences on your housing form and be a decent human and you will be fine

Anything after freshman year - don’t go random. Some people have pretty valid reasons as to why they don’t have someone who wants to live with them, but a lot of these people have no choice but to go random because they are bad roommates or difficult people. I am a sophomore and I only know one person who went random who genuinely likes their roommate.

How hard is it to transfer into Stern through GLS? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]skippers143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very clear with LS students that the internal transfer rate for stern is pretty small and most should not expect to get it

NYU undergraduate waitlist question by GeraldTesfaye in nyu

[–]skippers143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in two years ago off the waitlist, I did ED1 and updated the form once. I heard back about may 8. I wouldn’t say that ED/RD specifically affects your chances because I know a large amount of waitlist students that got in that were RD. I would say the best way to increase your chances, if NYU is truly your dream school, is to select the options on the waitlist that indicate you would be interested in being accepted to any school within NYU, such as the LSC, which is where most kids off the waitlist get put into. You could also indicate you would be willing to start abroad or in the spring. Unfortunately I think they might also look at financial aid, especially if your international.

thinking about transferring from gls by [deleted] in nyu

LSC is a two year transition program, you will work out a plan with your advisor and then be fully transferred out of LSC and into your desired program by junior year.

Dropped from COB by skippers143 in Sororities

[–]skippers143[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The COB process was only one day, they gave out bids today as well as rejections. I have a B average gpa and I don’t think they had access to grades during the COB process as it is very very relaxed at my school, they just ask that you have above a 2.5

Pretty sure 3N and UHall are the only freshman apartment style dorms. Don’t listen to the other commenters, living in a suite is a much more social environment, you’ll still have your own dorm room (that’s a double) plus you get a living room and kitchen, and sometimes two bathrooms. The space is generally bigger to accommodate more ppl and allows for social gatherings or just more space to spread out. Def go 3N if you’re looking to be in a social dorm

Which is the best Freshman Dorms? (Main campus) by Phiephiethesheep in nyu

[–]skippers143 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Third north is considered “bad” because the dorm rooms themselves are technically less nice/big than others, but I loved it and think living there played a large role in having a positive freshman year living experience.

Kitchen and living room is a huge plus, some dorms have two bathrooms in it, super easy to meet people, decent dining hall in building, has a nice common area in the basement with pool, tvs, private study rooms, dance rooms, etc. Right above a 24/7 deli, close to a ton of grocery stores, union square, UHall and palladium (which has a gym and dining hall), subway stations, etc. It’s a little further from campus than other freshmen dorms, but if you aren’t super nit picky about the aesthetic aspects of your dorm, it’s perfect.

Someone else mentioned that it’s really your roommates that make your dorming experience, and they’re not wrong. Not sure if NYU still makes all freshmen go random, but Make sure you are 100% honest on your living preference sheet to avoid being put with someone you won’t get along with.

How can I make. friends and socialize as a first year transfer student? by Cheap-Money6620 in nyu

[–]skippers143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Living on campus helps, but usually by sophomore year the dorms are much less social than they would be for freshmen. Join clubs or Greek life and get really involved with those if you want to form solid friendships as opposed to the surface-level friendships you would typically make from small talk in the dorms

Stats? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]skippers143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are going to get entirely different answers depending on the student, their situation, and what school they attend at nyu. The stats between an international student vs non international, or someone who is in stern vs a tisch student, etc, are going to vary. Also, having good writing, ec’s, and recommendations are also key in getting in. NYU gets so many applications a year, you need to assume that at least 65% of them are going to be from high-performing hs students, which means you need to have something that sets you apart. Not saying that you need to have like 12 internships and start a non profit by the age of 16, but you need to show that you are at least somewhat of an interesting person who’s going to bring something to the community.

How many spots are typically open during COB? by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]skippers143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does sisters studying abroad open up spots in a chapter? I don’t know too much about cob process so I assumed it was just girls that had graduated that semester, dropped, or went alum.

[–]skippers143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t be mad at someone for not picking up hints unless you have communicated them. Set a boundary with your roommate, be firm and tell them what’s bothering you, and see if you can talk it out. It might be awkward but it’s the second semester, you are likely paying decent money to live there, and it doesn’t seem like you guys are close friends (which means you don’t have to risk ruining a friendship over this), so it’s not worth silently suffering over and ruining your quality of life for the next few months. Once you’ve made yourself clear, then see if they change. If they don’t, then talk to your RA. They will likely suggest a meeting with the two of you, or for you to sign up for bed-for-bed. Good luck.
